Forty years of expertise in loudspeaker manufacturing have led Triangle to develop its own range of cables. The OPERA OS25A embodies this approach by offering a ready-to-use solution, supplied as a pair of 2.5-meter cables with banana plugs. This cable is fully in line with the philosophy of the Picardy-based manufacturer: prioritizing signal transmission quality without excessive pricing.
The choice of conductor is at the heart of the OPERA OS25A’s design. Triangle has opted for OFC (Oxygen Free Copper), purified to 99.99% by removing oxygen during the smelting process. This level of purity ensures a homogeneous crystalline structure that promotes the flow of electrical signal with minimal resistance.
The distinctive feature of this cable lies in its Tinned OFC treatment: each copper strand receives a tin coating that forms a barrier against oxidation. Over the years, bare copper tends to corrode on contact with air, which can gradually impair conductivity. Tin-plating preserves the conductor’s properties and ensures enhanced durability, a valuable asset for a long-term installation.
The tinned copper strands are arranged in a helical braid rather than the traditional parallel layout. This geometry helps limit electromagnetic interference that could contaminate the audio signal. The 2.5 mm² cross-section per conductor is suitable for most home setups, whether powering bookshelf speakers or floorstanding models in a living room.
The outer transparent PVC jacket reveals the internal structure of the cable. Beyond aesthetics, this transparency makes identification easier thanks to printed markings: cable direction, positive and negative polarity, and length indication. These markers simplify connection and help avoid phase errors between the two speakers.
The banana plugs at each end of the cable use an anodized aluminum shell that protects the connection. The central contact is gold-plated, a treatment that preserves connection quality over time by preventing oxidation of the conductive surface.
This pre-terminated format offers a clear practical advantage: no conductor preparation, no stripping, no crimping required. The cable can be inserted directly into spring-clip or screw terminals, reducing the risk of poorly inserted strands or accidental short circuits between polarities.
Although Triangle designed this cable with its own speakers in mind, the OPERA OS25A easily adapts to other brands. Its neutral, uncolored sonic character respects the personality of the electronics and transducers with which it’s paired. It is equally at home in a dedicated stereo music system or a multichannel home theater setup.
The 2.5-meter length per cable meets the typical needs of a medium-sized living room, where the amplifier is generally positioned centrally relative to the speakers. For setups requiring longer runs, Triangle also offers Opera cable on reels, sold by the meter, to be fitted with BP400 banana plugs sold separately.
The Symphonie range uses OFHC copper with higher purity (99.999% versus 99.99%) and features double insulation with an antistatic foil, completed by an external fabric sleeve. Symphonie banana plugs are silver-plated. Opera offers a more affordable compromise, with tin treatment that compensates by providing better resistance to oxidation.
Unlike active electronic components, a copper cable does not require a specific break-in period. The conductive properties of tinned OFC copper are stable from the very first use. The cable can be used immediately without any significant change in performance over time.
The 4 mm banana plug format used here corresponds to the most widespread international standard. It fits into virtually all modern terminals, whether spring-clip, screw with central opening, or binding post. Only some older equipment with undersized terminals may present compatibility issues.
The OPERA OS25A is designed for single wiring, with one pair of conductors per speaker. For bi-wiring, you would need to use two pairs of cables or choose specific models featuring four conductors with separate terminations for the bass and midrange/treble sections.
