Long recognized as the central element of a quality, affordable audio system, the role of the integrated amplifier has evolved considerably since many audiophiles have migrated to digital sources. The RA-1572 is one of the best examples of the perfect blend between classic analog design and advanced digital circuitry, allowing all your sources to come to life without exception and in high fidelity.
As is always the case with Rotel amplifiers, the RA-1572’s circuits use a high-capacity power supply based on an oversized toroidal transformer designed and manufactured in-house by Rotel. In addition to abundantly supplying voltage and current to all power stages, the toroidal shape of the transformer prevents stray radiation from interfering with audio signals as they pass through adjacent circuits.
The other power supply components benefit from tight tolerance elements, notably the T-Network capacitors that precisely deliver the voltage and current needed to ensure ideal signal reproduction.
The “Inputs” section of the RA-1572 offers significantly more flexibility than that found in most other integrated amplifiers. To account for the predominance of digital sources available today, the RA-1572 has integrated an AKM 32-bit/768 kHz digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and the highest quality analog section. The DAC and associated circuitry can handle a wide range of sources including a PC-USB type compatible with DSD (32-bit/384kHz). A USB input on the front panel is also provided for easy connection of a variety of mobile audio devices, such as Apple’s iPod, iPhone and iPad. The Bluetooth input supports the aptX format for superior performance with compatible devices. Additionally, two coaxial (RCA) and optical (TOSlink) inputs provide easy connection to LPCM music sources, including streaming audio sources with bit depths up to 24 bits and sampling rates up to 192 kHz. It is also possible to set the listening level and define an automatic power-on option for digital inputs, allowing use with devices that have their own volume control for easy everyday use. Analog inputs include a set of balanced XLR connectors in addition to conventional RCA jacks.
The Class AB output stages use discrete components to ensure accurate reproduction of all signals regardless of their origin with virtually any loudspeaker. The output power is rated at a minimum of 120 W per channel into 8 ohms, an important figure as it is continuous power, obtained with “both channels driven simultaneously” corresponding to real-world use and Rotel’s tradition of offering exceptional value. A mono subwoofer output is also provided.
On the practical side, the user has two 12-volt trigger outputs to control the power supply of other components, a highly visible VFD display for configuration, as well as software updates available on the Internet and the ability to control the device via RS232 and/or IP.
