Le Van den Hul The Name perfectly embodies the philosophy of the Dutch brand: democratizing access to refined technical construction without compromising on sound quality. This analog interconnect cable demonstrates how a methodical approach to audio engineering can transform an entry-level product into a benchmark within its category.
Designed with the same rigor as Van den Hul’s high-end models, The Name benefits from forty years of innovation in audio signal transmission. Its accessible positioning conceals technical construction that rivals significantly more expensive products, setting new standards in its price range.
The Name features a coaxial construction with a solid central conductor measuring 1.1 mm in diameter—an unusual size for an entry-level cable. This generous cross-section ensures an extended frequency response and minimizes transmission losses, which is especially crucial in the high frequencies where even the slightest degradation becomes audible.
The central conductor uses high-purity OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) coated with a dense layer of pure silver. This combination leverages the optimal conductive properties of silver on the surface—where high-frequency signals preferentially travel due to the skin effect—while retaining the mechanical strength of copper.
Electromagnetic protection is provided by a double-layer shield, also using silver-plated OFC copper. This configuration offers effective attenuation of radio frequency interference and electromagnetic disturbances, a growing issue in our homes saturated with electronic devices.
The precisely controlled characteristic impedance of 75 ohms allows for versatile use in both analog and digital applications, without the need for special adaptation. This versatility is a major advantage for users wishing to standardize their cabling with a single reference.
Van den Hul developed the HULLIFLEX material specifically for its cables, replacing traditional PVC insulators with a halogen-free formulation. This innovation simultaneously meets the demands of electrical performance and contemporary environmental concerns.
HULLIFLEX combines excellent chemical stability with superior flexibility, making installation easier while providing long-term protection for the internal conductors. Its resistance to external corrosive agents ensures exceptional longevity—a criterion often overlooked in budget ranges.
The internal polyethylene foam insulation maintains a parasitic capacitance of only 59 pF/m, a remarkably low value that preserves the signal’s dynamics and timing accuracy. This characteristic directly influences transient response and the separation of sound layers.
The Name excels at interconnecting classic analog equipment: turntables, CD players, amplifiers, preamplifiers. Its balanced construction preserves the natural musicality of analog sources without artificial coloration.
The 24-carat gold-plated RCA connectors, identical to those used in Van den Hul’s higher-end ranges, ensure reliable and durable connections. Their non-magnetic construction with internal Teflon insulation eliminates the micro-distortion phenomena often found in entry-level connectors.
The linear resistance of 1.87 Ω/100m for the central conductor and 0.95 Ω/100m for the shielding attests to the quality of the materials used. These exceptionally low values for this price range minimize resistive losses even over long distances.
The capacitance of 59 pF/m, combined with the stable 75-ohm impedance, guarantees faithful transmission without phase distortion—a critical parameter for preserving stereo imaging.
The double shielding provides effective attenuation across a wide frequency spectrum, protecting the signal from interference generated by digital equipment, LED lighting, or ubiquitous WiFi networks. This bidirectional protection also prevents the cable from emitting disturbances outward.
The 7.3 mm outer diameter offers an optimal compromise between mechanical robustness and handling. HULLIFLEX provides surprising flexibility despite the solid central conductor, making it easy to route through tight spaces.
The distinctive yellow jacket allows for quick identification in complex installations—a practical detail often overlooked. This bright color also simplifies maintenance and future cabling modifications.
Absolutely. Its analog/digital versatility and standard RCA connectors make it perfectly compatible with surround processors, Blu-ray players, and multichannel amplifiers. Using the same reference throughout the installation preserves sonic coherence between channels.
The Name shares the fundamental technologies of the higher ranges: OFC/silver materials, HULLIFLEX, quality connectors. The higher-end models offer further geometric refinements, even higher-performing materials, and premium finishes, but The Name captures the essence of Van den Hul’s philosophy.
Its remarkable transparency can indeed reveal the limitations of lower-quality equipment, but this is generally constructive. It helps identify the weak links in a system and allows for informed planning of future upgrades.
Its extended bandwidth and low distortion make it perfectly suited to contemporary high-resolution sources. The stable impedance and low capacitance preserve the integrity of high-definition signals, allowing you to fully enjoy advanced audio formats without bottlenecks.

Unassuming OFC cable that gets the job done. Remember to check the connector tightness! (only drawback). Used to connect a source (WiiM Ultra) to the amplifier (Cambridge CXA 81).
