Placed on a low cabinet, a bookshelf speaker directs its treble towards your knees and transmits its vibrations to the surface supporting it. This stand raises it to ear level, isolates it from the floor with adjustable spikes and hides the cables inside one of its two tubes. Its understated lines, in black or white, blend into a living room, giving you the freedom to position your speakers.
Without its spikes, the S02 measures 596 mm. Topped with a typical bookshelf speaker, it positions the tweeter around 90 cm above the floor, roughly the ear height of someone sitting on a sofa. There is an acoustic reason for this height: treble travels in a much narrower beam than bass and midrange, and a tweeter aimed at the torso robs the soundstage of precision and airiness. Moving the speaker off the cabinet also frees up its placement. You can bring it a few dozen centimetres away from the rear wall, move it away from corners that boost the bass and angle it slightly towards the listening position, something a shelf or sideboard rarely allows.
The stand rests on a 230 × 270 mm base, connected to the 165 × 215 mm top plate by two vertical tubes. These tubes are not identical: the rear one has openings so that the speaker cable enters at the bottom and emerges beneath the plate, leaving no wire hanging along the stand. Viewed from the front, the S02 consists of just two straight lines. Each stand weighs 5 kg, a mass that lowers the centre of gravity of the assembly and makes the speaker difficult to knock over with an elbow. A heavy, rigid support also vibrates much less than a lightweight model, so it does not feed unwanted resonances back into the speaker it supports.
Four spikes screw into the underside of each stand’s base. They reduce contact with the floor to four tiny points: vibrations generated by the movement of the speaker drivers dissipate into the floor rather than travelling through the structure, improving playback clarity. Each spike is height-adjustable and locks in place with a nut, allowing you to compensate for tiles or wooden flooring that are not perfectly level and eliminate any rocking. On carpet, the spikes pass through the fibres to rest on the floor slab. On hard or delicate flooring, the supplied spike cups sit beneath each spike to protect the surface. Positioning them on wooden flooring takes a little patience: the easiest method is to tilt the stand to slide them under the spikes one at a time, then level it as the final step.
The 165 × 215 mm plate accommodates compact and medium-sized bookshelf speakers. In the Triangle catalogue, the S02 pairs with the Borea BR03 and BR04, the BR03 Connect, the Titus Ez from the Esprit Ez range and the AIO Twin active pair. With the latter, the speaker’s width exactly matches that of the plate (165 mm), while its depth extends 2 cm beyond it, a modest overhang relative to the footprint of the base. A speaker from another brand will fit provided its bottom rests securely on the plate, without extending several centimetres beyond the sides. The brand’s smaller speakers, such as the LN01A or BR02, pair with the more discreet S01 stand, while larger bookshelf speakers such as the Solstice 3 or Comète Ez pair with the S05.
Per pair. The box contains two stands, eight adjustable spikes and eight spike pads, i.e. four of each per stand.
No, the column measures 596 mm. The spikes add a few millimeters and are used to level the stand on an uneven floor, not to adjust the listening height.
Assembly involves four steps: thread the cables through the designated holes, screw the spikes into the underside of the base, attach the base to the two tubes in the orientation shown in the instruction diagram (the tubes are not interchangeable), then attach the top plate. It is best to insert the eight top plate screws without tightening them, allowing you to check the alignment of all parts before final tightening.
Yes. The surround speakers in a 5.1 or 7.1 system are placed at ear level or slightly above, to the sides or slightly behind the listening position. A bookshelf speaker placed on an S02 falls within this range, and the integrated cable management conceals the lengths of cable running to the amplifier at the front of the room.
Yes, and it makes positioning easier. A speaker with a rear bass-reflex port needs a few tens of centimetres of clearance from the wall; otherwise, the bass becomes overpowering. On a stand, the speaker can sit further out into the room without being limited by the depth of a piece of furniture, and you can adjust the distance from the wall until you find the right balance.
It is designed by Triangle in France and assembled in China.
The S02 is available in black and white. White blends into a light-colored interior or matches speakers in the same shade, while black remains the most discreet option against a dark wall or next to a TV stand.
