Since SP records have monaural modulation, when combining an SP stylus with a stereo body, such as the AT-VM95SP, it is recommended to use the “MONO ON” function of the standard stereo preamplifier to minimize surface noise.

The AT-VM95SP, as a stereo cartridge for mono SP records, and when used with a professional phono preamplifier dedicated to archiving, will allow the sound engineer to minimize noise and distortion by sampling the least damaged side of the grooves of an old record, as the cartridge has independent left and right outputs.
