Some rooms are not suited to conventional stereo. A hallway too narrow to space two speakers apart, a bathroom with only one available ceiling location, a kitchen where the furniture imposes constraints. The IC-610T from Russound addresses this specific situation: a single in-ceiling speaker that reproduces the left and right channels from a single point, without requiring the usual pair or the associated wiring.
How a single speaker plays in stereo
Single-point stereo is based on a simple idea: housing both channels in the same enclosure. The 16.51 cm woofer achieves this with a dual voice coil, one for the left channel and one for the right channel, sharing the same polypropylene cone. Two separate tweeters handle the high frequencies, each dedicated to its own channel. At the rear, there are therefore two separate inputs, a left and right connection just as on a pair, but with only one hole to cut.
The compromise lies in the soundstage. Two spaced speakers create a wide stage, with clearly separated left and right channels. A single point necessarily narrows this separation: you get a convincing stereo effect in the area below the speaker, but not the width of a true pair. For background listening or a passageway, the result is more than sufficient; for a main listening room, a pair remains preferable.
Sound reproduction, from bass to treble
The cone uses injection-molded polypropylene, a rigid and stable material that handles power well over time. The tweeter domes are made of polyetherimide (PEI), a 13 mm technical plastic valued for its stiffness, which helps keep the upper range clean. The stated frequency response extends from 40 Hz to 20 kHz. This 40 Hz lower limit remains theoretical in a ceiling: the available volume in the false ceiling and the in-ceiling installation limit the bass actually reproduced. For background music or voice, it performs effortlessly; for the deep bass of a film, a subwoofer takes over.
Electrically, the speaker is rated at 8 ohms, with a sensitivity of 90 dB (1 W at 1 m), and handles 5 to 90 watts. Its 90 dB sensitivity makes it easy to drive: a multiroom amplifier or a zone output from a home theater amplifier powers it without effort.
The rooms where it belongs
A hallway, bathroom, laundry room, walk-in closet, small bedroom: wherever only one location is available, or where installing two speakers would make no sense, the single-point model does the job. It is also found as a complement to a multiroom installation, providing sound in a passage area without dedicating a full pair to it. In a large room, it can cover a specific area, above a worktop for example, where sound is wanted without installing more speakers.
Quick installation, even while perched on a ladder
Russound has paid close attention to installation, an important point when working at height. The Pin-Cushion EasyGrip system allows the speaker to be held and secured with one hand, leaving the other free for balance. It requires a circular cutout 21.27 cm in diameter and 10.1 cm deep behind the ceiling; once installed, the visible bezel measures 23.8 cm. The trimless grille attaches with neodymium magnets and can be painted to match the ceiling, making it disappear once in place.
Its place in the IC series
Russound offers this family in several versions. The IC-610, without the T, is a conventional two-way pair: two speakers, one left and one right, to be installed separately. The IC-610T concentrates this stereo sound into a single point. Above it, the IC-620T follows the same single-point principle with revised components. The choice therefore depends on the room: two available locations point toward the pair, while one points toward the single-point model.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should it be installed as a pair, or is one enough?
A single speaker already reproduces both channels, so one unit is enough to provide stereo sound in a room. Multiple units are used when you want to cover several zones, at a rate of one per space, rather than to form a left-right pair.
How many conductors need to be run to the speaker?
It has separate left and right inputs. It therefore requires four conductors, i.e. two pairs: positive and negative for the left channel, positive and negative for the right channel. A four-core speaker cable will do.
Does it work on a 100-volt line?
No. With its 8 ohms, it connects to a conventional low-impedance amplifier, such as a multiroom amplifier or a zone output on a home theater amplifier. 100-volt lines, intended for sound systems in large spaces, would require a transformer, which it does not include.
Can it replace Atmos ceiling speakers?
No, that is not its purpose. The height channels of an Atmos system follow precise placement rules and remain separate from one another. Mono-point combines left and right into a single point for music or ambient sound, a different role from ceiling speakers dedicated to spatial audio.
Is a subwoofer useful with it?
For background music and voices, it performs well on its own. As soon as you want the deep bass of a movie, a subwoofer provides the complement that a 16.5 cm ceiling woofer cannot deliver.
Is the grille visible once the ceiling has been painted?
The grille has no visible edge and is held in place by neodymium magnets. Painted to match the ceiling colour, it blends into the surface and no longer draws the eye, which makes it ideal for living spaces.
Is it suitable for a bathroom?
The technical data sheet does not mention a specific waterproof rating. In a normally ventilated bathroom, away from direct water splashes, installation is standard; for an area highly exposed to humidity, an enclosure designed for damp environments is preferable.
