100% Solid Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) Conductors
The WEL Signature power cable uses extremely pure Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) conductors. All conductors are solid core to prevent strand interaction, a major source of distortion. Surface quality is critical because a conductor can be considered a rail-guide for both electrical and magnetic fields; the remarkably smooth and pure Perfect Surface eliminates harshness and greatly increases clarity compared to OFHC, OCC, 8N and other coppers. The exceptional purity of PSS further minimizes distortion caused by grain boundaries that exist within any metal conductor.
Hard-Cell Foam Nitrogen-Injected Insulation
Hard-cell foam Nitrogen-Injected Insulation is used exclusively on most of AudioQuest’s video and digital audio cables. Similar to Foamed-PE, the nitrogen gas pockets are created by a chemical reaction that takes place during the manufacturing process. “Hard” foam is used because the stiffness of the material allows the cable’s conductors to maintain a stable relationship along the full length of the cable, thus ensuring consistent impedance.
100% Coverage Shield (Foil + Tinned Braid)
While shielding always plays an important role in the design of any cable, the shield for coaxial digital connectivity is of particular importance because in addition to providing protection, it also acts as the return conductor. For this reason, AudioQuest pays particular attention to the metal quality and manufacturing techniques used for the shield, as they can affect both sound and picture performance.
Dielectric-Bias System (DBS)
All insulation slows down the signal on the conductor inside. When insulation is unbiased, it slows down parts of the signal differently, a big problem for very time-sensitive multi-octave audio. AudioQuest’s DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This minimizes both energy storage in the insulation and the multiple nonlinear time-delays that occur. Sound appears from a surprisingly black background with unexpected detail and dynamic contrast. The DBS battery packs will last for years. A test button and LED allow for the occasional battery check.
