The Cardas Clear Cygnus XLR is an interconnect cable that incorporates the latest advancements from the Clear series, including synchronized propagation technology. As the successor to the Clear Light, it delivers a more extended response in the low frequencies while maintaining the neutral tonal balance characteristic of the new generation of Cardas cables.

Synchronized Propagation Technology

The Clear Cygnus features Cardas’ exclusive “Matched Propagation” technology, which addresses a fundamental physical issue found in conventional audio cables. In a standard cable, the electrical signal travels at the speed of light, while the dielectric (insulation) discharge can only reach 78% of that speed. This mismatch creates interference that pollutes the audio information.

The synchronized propagation conductors in the Clear Cygnus use a specially designed Kevlar core to harmonize these propagation speeds. This approach eliminates timing discrepancies between the main signal and parasitic charges, resulting in a purer and more coherent audio signal transmission.

This technology is particularly effective at preserving the temporal coherence of complex signals, thereby enhancing soundstage accuracy and transient definition.

Premium Construction and Materials

The Clear Cygnus uses OFHC (Oxygen-Free High Conductivity) copper conductors with 99.9999% purity, coated with a transparent SPN insulator using Litz technology. This specific construction optimizes electrical conduction while minimizing losses due to the skin effect.

The four conductors are insulated with a PFA (perfluoroalkoxy) dielectric combined with air, a solution that reduces the dielectric constant and improves transmission performance. This dual-layer insulation is wrapped in a PTFE tape for added protection against moisture and mechanical stress.

The ultra-flexible extruded TPR (Thermoplastic Rubber) outer jacket provides remarkable flexibility while effectively protecting the entire construction. This neutral-colored Alcryn sheath measures 9.5 mm in outer diameter, offering a good balance between robustness and handling.

Star-Quad Geometry and Golden Ratio

The internal geometry of the Clear Cygnus follows a four-conductor Star-Quad configuration, organized according to the proportions of the golden ratio (1.618). This mathematical arrangement, dear to Cardas, aims to optimize the distribution of electromagnetic fields and minimize interactions between conductors.

The conductors are suspended in antistatic air tubes made of LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene), bound by a carbon-impregnated PTFE tape. The outer layer uses PTFE air tubes that are precisely 1.618 times larger than the central tubes, thus adhering to the golden ratio even in the finest construction details.

This particular geometry keeps the signal conductors at an optimal distance from the composite tinned copper shield and magnetic wire, thereby reducing parasitic capacitance and crosstalk.

Evolution Compared to the Clear Light

The Clear Cygnus represents a substantial improvement over the Clear Light it replaces in the lineup. The main advancements include increased precision, better low-frequency definition, and richer tonal quality without compromising neutrality.

The new synchronized propagation conductors are the major technical difference, providing temporal coherence unattainable with the previous generation. This technology, inspired by the high-end Clear, allows the Cygnus to deliver performance close to its predecessor at a more accessible price point.

The shielding architecture has also been revised, with double shielding using tinned copper and magnetic wire that improves immunity to electromagnetic interference. This enhanced protection is especially beneficial in environments dense with electronic equipment.

The Clear Cygnus XLR is perfectly suited for balanced connections between preamplifiers and power amplifiers, as well as for connecting digital sources equipped with XLR outputs. Its Star-Quad geometry and effective shielding make it a preferred choice for installations where cable length exceeds one meter.
