Overview

Since the outputs of hi-fi devices only provide very weak signals and react sensitively to high cable capacitance, cable capacitance plays a decisive role in connecting components together. The result is a so-called low-pass filter that cuts off high frequencies and also causes phase shifts. This is why RCA and XLR audio cables are practically predestined for the air-based insulation of MICRO AIR technology. Another special feature of the NF-204 MICRO AIR is its symmetrical architecture, which guarantees high security against interference due to EMC radiation. For the MICRO AIR series, we have also developed a completely new RCA connector that is completely solder-free. It consists of several parts that are only assembled at the time of fabrication. With a lot of passion and dexterity, the cable ends are prepared in our cable manufacturing plant, inserted into the tellurium copper contact pins and subjected to a pressure of 1.5 tons. The NF-204 MICRO AIR is also available in an XLR version for devices with balanced inputs and outputs.

Micro AIR Technology

The laws of nature cannot be deprogrammed. The only thing you can do is play with them skillfully. Every cable has so-called parasitic effects due to these laws of nature. Among them is capacitance, i.e. the fact that a cable, like a battery, can temporarily store energy and release it with a certain delay. An effect that strongly influences the transmission of audio signals and is undesirable. Line capacitance is a physical phenomenon whose size depends on various factors. One of them plays an essential role: it is the insulating material, called dielectric, which can increase the capacitance several times. Air does not do this, and therefore makes it the ideal insulator. Part of the insulation of MICRO AIR technology is a complex rhomboid structure. The chambers created by this assembly increase the distance between the conductors and the air content of the insulation. In this way, disruptive capacitances are reduced and the transmission characteristics of sensitive audio signals are optimized.

Concentric Copper

Unlike conventional conductors, in which the arrangement of each wire is chaotic, the structure of the wires in a concentric copper conductor follows a defined pattern, in which the wires are precisely arranged in several layers. This design reduces irregular contact points between the wires, which harmonizes signal flow and minimizes propagation time differentials. Impulses can be reproduced with absolute precision and the spatial information of the music is preserved. A thin layer of polyethylene protects the very pure copper from oxygen and thus oxidation.

Electrostatics and Capacitance

Everyone is familiar with the effect when you take off a synthetic sweater - it crackles and sparks. This is because the integrated plastic material stores an electrical charge which is then released all at once. The same thing happens in the dielectric, the insulating material of a cable. It “absorbs” electrical energy like a sponge and releases it later. For an audio cable, however, these are parts of the audio signal. A measure of this undesirable storage capacity is the capacitance of the cable. While a capacitor is used to store energy and should therefore have a high capacitance, the capacitance of an audio cable should be as low as possible. It significantly influences the transmission properties and also causes interactions with the connected electronics. The ideal is therefore an air insulation, as in the case of MICRO AIR technology, because it reduces the capacitance to a minimum.
