Overview
A living room equipped with small speakers almost always misses the same thing: the lowest octave of bass, the one that gives a double bass its weight or a movie explosion its impact. Audio Pro addresses this with a 28 cm cube designed in Sweden, combining an active driver with two passive radiators on its sides. It connects to a stereo amplifier or a home theater receiver and reaches down to 33 Hz.
A compact cube with working sides
Most subwoofers hide how they work behind smooth panels. The SW-10 does the opposite: its two passive radiators remain visible on the sides of the cabinet, and their circular shape softens the cube’s strict lines. The active driver sits on the front. The whole unit measures 280 × 280 × 295 mm and weighs 9.65 kg, making it compact enough to sit beside a TV cabinet or at the foot of a bookcase without dominating the room. Two finishes are available, black or white, in keeping with the brand’s understated wireless speakers.
A 20 cm driver supported by two passive radiators
The SW-10 uses a long-throw 20 cm driver. Its cone can travel a long way forward and backward, and that excursion lets it move plenty of air with a reasonably sized driver. It is powered by a 200 W Class D digital amplifier, with digital signal processing (DSP) managing its operation.
The two 20 cm passive radiators complete the setup. These are diaphragms without motors or magnets, set in motion by the pressure of the air inside the cabinet when the active driver moves. They play a role similar to a bass-reflex port, extending the response downward, but without an open tube—and therefore without chuffing at high volume. Placing them opposite each other on the two sides also has a mechanical benefit: their movements oppose each other, limiting vibrations transmitted to the cabinet. The stated frequency response runs from 33 to 120 Hz, a range covering an orchestra’s bass as well as most of a soundtrack’s low-frequency effects.
Four rear-panel controls to tune the bass
Adjustments are made by hand on the rear panel, starting with the level knob, which sets the amount of bass relative to the main speakers. The crossover, adjustable from 40 to 120 Hz, sets the frequency above which the subwoofer falls silent. With bookshelf speakers that begin to roll off around 60 Hz, setting it near that point allows a smooth handover without a gap or a peak. The phase switch, set to 0 or 180°, reverses the direction of the cone’s movement. It is useful when the subwoofer is far from the speakers and the bass seems to thin out instead of adding up. Audio Pro recommends adjusting the crossover and phase by ear, using familiar music, until you find the right balance.
The power switch offers an always-on or automatic setting. In automatic mode, the SW-10 wakes as soon as a signal arrives and returns to standby after more than 20 minutes of silence, drawing less than 0.5 W. In operation, it uses just 7.4 W.
A single RCA input and what it means for connecting
The SW-10 receives its signal through a single RCA subwoofer input, connected using the supplied cable. It can therefore pair with any device that has a subwoofer or preamp output: a recent stereo amplifier, a home theater receiver via its LFE output, a network amplifier, or Audio Pro active speakers with a subwoofer output, such as the A28 W, A38 W or C20 W.
The subwoofer does not, however, have a high-level input—the type that connects to speaker terminals. An older amplifier without a subwoofer or preamp output therefore cannot connect to it directly. Nor does it have a wireless connection: a cable must run to the source, something to consider when choosing where to place it. No app controls it, and all adjustments are made using physical controls.
