Electrocompaniet AW800M
Overview
The AW 800 M is Electrocompaniet’s brand new flagship power amplifier. It replaces the legendary AW 600 NEMO as the most powerful monoblock power amplifier.
Heavily Upgraded
To power the output stage, the power supply is heavily upgraded and now features a total power supply filtering of 210,000 uF. The mains power input is DC and RF filtered. The twin toroidal transformers with improved wire gauge are magnetically and electrostatically shielded to prevent any noise from entering. The internal ground reference has been greatly oversized and made completely free of rectification and output currents. The result is a very clean and noise-free output signal, regardless of output power, providing a very stable sound stage with the blackest possible background at any sound level.
Mono, Stereo and Bi-Amping Operating Modes
An intriguing new attribute of the AW 800 M is the ability to switch between mono, stereo and bi-amping operating modes, allowing you to upgrade your system or change your configuration while retaining your initial investment. Convenience enhancements are switchable on/off auto power off and switchable function lighting, user switchable 115/230 V mains voltage input as well as trigger in-out.
Construction
The AW 800 M also features design upgrades, including a new front plate design with a 3D logo and the new power button design. The chassis has a new modular design construction and is redesigned from the ground up. The chassis design is enhanced by two black brushed aluminum rods on top, which not only makes for a much more rigid chassis, but also adds a nice decorative element. All housed in a luxurious matte finish that gives Electrocompaniet’s timeless look.
What the press says
Although the brand sometimes uses the term Class A to describe the sound quality of its products, its power amplifiers are Class A/B amplifiers, which makes sense given their power ratings. The architecture of the AW 800M is quite straightforward, based on a dual-mono and symmetrical design. The two amplification channels therefore have the same architecture while being completely separate, on either side of the amplifier.
