Introducing the SVS Prime Tower Speakers
The SVS Prime Tower floor-standing speakers set a new benchmark for sound quality and value in their class. They deliver surprisingly transparent sound reproduction, with a wide and stable soundstage and precise stereo imaging of voices and instruments. All of this is supported by deep and accurate bass extension.
Challenge the Prime Tower speakers to reproduce any dynamic movie soundtrack or music track, and they will reveal new layers of sound and detail you never suspected were there. Drawing on technologies from the Ultra Series speakers, SVS engineers designed the Prime Towers to rival the best speakers in the world.
Acoustic Design
High-Performance Drivers
Each Prime Tower speaker incorporates no less than 4 drivers:
-
A 25 mm aluminum dome tweeter. Light and rigid, it reaches high into the treble with great clarity while remaining smooth and musical. Its FEA-optimized diffuser ensures an airy and detailed presentation.
-
A 114 mm polypropylene midrange. Its extremely light cone offers an excellent stiffness-to-mass ratio for accurate response with minimal distortion. An aluminum ring reduces inductance for enhanced clarity.
-
Two 165 mm polypropylene woofers. Each is loaded in a separate volume with specific tuning for deep, articulate bass. The light, rigid diaphragms allow substantial excursion without deformation.
Innovative SoundMatch Crossover
To get the best from the drivers, SVS developed a sophisticated 3.5-way crossover called SoundMatch. Its network topology ensures controlled directivity across the entire frequency range for a wide and precise soundstage, regardless of listening position.
The SoundMatch crossover enables a smooth transition between the different frequency ranges, for a highly cohesive sound from bass to treble. Signal purity is preserved thanks to superior quality components.
Non-Resonant Cabinet
The Prime Tower cabinet employs numerous optimizations to minimize parasitic vibrations:
- High-density MDF walls with internal bracing.
- Midrange decoupled in a sealed volume for more precise bass.
- Low-turbulence profiled port at the rear.
- Thick front baffle with chamfer to limit diffraction.
- Acoustically transparent grille, removable via pin system.
These measures ensure pistonic diaphragm operation, without cabinet resonances, even at high levels. The transient response is excellent for great reactivity on all types of signals.
Extended Frequency Response
Thanks to the combination of large diameter drivers and a generous cabinet, the SVS Prime Tower speakers develop a particularly wide frequency response, extending from 30 Hz to 25 kHz ± 3 dB.
The extreme low end is effortlessly reproduced down to 30 Hz, enough to physically feel the infra-bass without resorting to an additional subwoofer. This ability benefits movie soundtracks as much as the deepest instruments like double bass or bass drums.
At the same time, the treble extends effortlessly up to 25 kHz, well beyond the limits of human hearing. This extension brings an extra level of transparency and openness, for an airy and detailed rendering of the most subtle harmonics.
Sensitivity and power handling
With a sensitivity of 87 dB/2.83V/1m, the Prime Towers prove relatively easy to drive despite their substantial volume. An amplifier of 20 to 250 W will do the job very well, without requiring heavy artillery. The nominal impedance of 8 ohms, coupled with a relatively smooth impedance curve, ensures a stable load for the amplifier. So there’s no risk of seeing the impedance drop too low in the bass.
The main advantages of the SVS Prime Tower floorstanding speakers:
