Excellent CD player paired with a Dangerous Music DAC. I only regret that it does not support SACD tracks. Even at 1000 Euros more expensive, to do so, it would remain perfect.

The DR200 Evolution from Atoll Electronique is a high-end CD transport designed to deliver perfect playback of your discs. With its audiophile-grade reading mechanism, separate power supplies, and anti-vibration treatment, it ensures sound reproduction of great purity and excellent dynamics.
At the heart of the DR200 Evolution is a next-generation Teac CD reading mechanism, specially designed for high-end audio applications. This CD-5020B mechanism ensures perfectly faithful playback of audio CDs while guaranteeing stable and consistent digital data transmission. It is compatible with CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, as well as MP3, WMA, and AAC formats.
The chassis of the DR200 Evolution has been specially treated to reduce parasitic vibrations that can degrade sound quality. The reading mechanism is isolated by a specific anti-vibration material that effectively absorbs resonances. This meticulous design allows for the extraction of an audio signal of great purity.
To ensure optimal sound quality, the DR200 Evolution is equipped with several dedicated power supplies. A 30 VA transformer is dedicated to the reading mechanism, providing stable power with high current capacity. The digital stages benefit from a low-noise linear power supply with a specific 1.6 VA transformer. This separation of power supplies allows for complete isolation between the different sections, thus eliminating any interference.
The reformatting of digital signals is handled by an LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling) circuit that allows for high-resolution processing. The digital signals are isolated by a specific 1:1 transformer dedicated to the S/PDIF and AES/EBU outputs. This processing ensures perfect transmission of digital audio data to your external D/A converter.
The DR200 Evolution features coaxial, optical, and AES/EBU digital outputs. The coaxial output uses a high-quality RCA connector with PTFE insulation for optimal signal transmission. The AES/EBU output on XLR allows for a balanced connection with compatible DACs. A Toslink optical output is also available for versatile connectivity.
The front of the DR200 Evolution sports a low-consumption OLED display that clearly indicates playback information. It is compatible with CD-Text display to show track names. The control buttons are reduced to the essentials for simple and intuitive use.
An infrared remote control is provided with the DR200 Evolution. It allows you not only to control all the functions of the player (play, pause, tracks, etc.) but also to operate other Atoll components (integrated amplifiers, preamplifiers, tuners, DACs). It provides access to advanced functions such as programming, random play, or repeat.
Atoll has selected high-quality components to design the DR200 Evolution. The capacitors used total a capacity of 23,000 µF for perfectly stable power supply. The printed circuits are double-sided with a nickel-gold finish. Every detail has been carefully crafted to extract the best from your CDs.
Why choose a dedicated CD transport over a classic CD player?
A CD transport like the DR200 Evolution is entirely dedicated to CD playback. It does not have an integrated digital-to-analog converter and only delivers a digital signal. This allows for optimized reading mechanics and power supplies to extract a signal of great purity, free from any interference. By pairing it with a high-end external DAC, you achieve sound reproduction of exceptional quality, far superior to that of a classic CD player.
What are the advantages of the new Teac CD-5020B mechanism?
The Teac CD-5020B mechanism used in the DR200 Evolution brings several improvements over previous generations. It offers better reading quality thanks to a new, more precise tracking mechanism. Data addressing has also been optimized for perfect transmission of digital information. This new mechanism ensures error-free reading of your CDs.
What types of converters can I use with the DR200 Evolution?
The DR200 Evolution delivers a digital signal and therefore needs to be paired with an external digital-to-analog converter. With its coaxial, optical, and AES/EBU outputs, it is compatible with the vast majority of DACs on the market. You can use it with an Atoll DAC like the DAC200 or DAC300, as well as converters from other brands. Ideally, it should be paired with a high-end DAC to fully enjoy its qualities.
What are the different disc formats compatible with this player?
The DR200 Evolution plays standard audio CDs (CD-DA) as well as recorded CD-R and CD-RW discs. It is also compatible with discs containing compressed audio files in MP3, WMA, and AAC formats. You can therefore play a wide variety of discs, including your personal compilations.
What are the main differences between the DR200 Evolution and the DR100 model?
The DR200 Evolution stands out from the DR100 with several advancements. It uses a new, more efficient Teac CD-5020B mechanism. Its total filtering capacity is increased to 23,000 µF compared to 15,000 µF for the DR100, improving power supply stability. It includes an additional 1.6 VA transformer dedicated to the low-power section. The DR200 Evolution also benefits from specific anti-vibration treatment and digital signal isolation by transformer. Finally, it adds an AES/EBU digital output and a 12V trigger output.
Is it possible to play SACDs with this player?
No, the DR200 Evolution is a CD player only. It is not compatible with the SACD format. If you wish to play SACDs, you will need to look for a specific player or a universal player that supports this high-definition format.

Evolution is definitely a step forward compared to the already very high-quality DR200 Signature. The mechanics are smoother and perhaps even more precise—progress never stops at Atoll. It also seems even more sensitive to its setup: support and cabling. Fortunately, we still have music to help us cope with the hardships of this world, and we might as well listen in the best possible conditions at still reasonable prices. Thank you, ATOLL...
