Presentation of the Accuphase E-4000 Stereo Integrated Amplifier
The Accuphase E-4000 is a high-end stereo integrated amplifier that combines elegant retro design with cutting-edge technical solutions. As the successor to the highly acclaimed E-480, it pushes the boundaries of high-fidelity even further.
This fully symmetrical amplifier design utilizes a quadruple parallel push-pull configuration of MOS-FET power transistors driven in class AB. Coupled with large heat sinks, they deliver high power of 180 W per channel at 8 Ω and 260 W at 4 ohms, with very low distortion and perfect linearity.
The amplification stage is configured as an instrumentation amplifier for optimal noise suppression. An exceptional damping factor of 800 ensures firm control of speakers, even those with large-diameter diaphragms.
A Powerful and Stable Power Supply
To power its stages with a large energy reserve, the E-4000 relies on an oversized power supply. A massive high-efficiency toroidal transformer is paired with large high-voltage filtering capacitors totaling a capacity of 80,000 μF.
This robust power supply provides abundant current with great stability, allowing the amplifier to maintain control during the most demanding musical passages. The benefits are breathtaking dynamics, unwavering stability, and enhanced transparency.
A Revolutionary Volume Control
The E-4000’s volume control is based on Accuphase’s exclusive 2nd generation AAVA (Accuphase Analog Vari-gain Amplifier) technology. This ingenious system eliminates the need for a potentiometer in the signal path.
It combines six amplifiers mounted in parallel followed by a voltage-current conversion circuit for volume adjustment. An ANCC (Accuphase Noise and distortion Cancelling Circuit) module eliminates residual noise.
Compared to a traditional potentiometer, the AAVA introduces no impedance changes, no degradation of the signal-to-noise ratio, and no alteration of frequency response. It ensures very gradual adjustment, perfect channel balance, and minimal crosstalk.
Comprehensive and Evolving Connectivity
The E-4000 stands out with particularly rich and versatile connectivity. It features a 6.35 mm headphone jack with a dedicated attenuator on the front panel.
At the rear, there are 6 RCA line inputs and 3 XLR line inputs, a recording input and output, RCA and XLR preamp outputs, as well as a double pair of speaker terminals that can be used separately or together.
Two slots for extension cards allow for added functionality. Accuphase offers a USB DAC and an MM/MC phono preamp. The E-4000 can thus adapt to all needs and evolve over time.
Personalized Sound Adjustment
Behind a fold-down front panel, the E-4000 provides access to numerous settings to finely personalize the sound output according to preferences and installation.
You can adjust bass and treble, left/right balance, phase, switch to mono mode, choose active speaker outputs, etc. These extensive adjustment possibilities allow for optimization of playback according to the speakers and the acoustics of the listening room.
A Functional and Elegant Design
With its brushed aluminum front panel adorned with two large backlit needle VU meters, the E-4000 boasts a neo-retro aesthetic that is truly striking. The solid metal buttons and knobs provide a sense of sturdiness and quality.
The robust chassis with an anti-vibration cover and massive feet ensures effective protection against external interference. Extreme care in design and execution is evident at first glance.
A Full and Refined Sound
Beyond its impressive measured performance, the E-4000 truly shines when listened to. It reproduces music with rare fluidity and astonishing naturalness, without any harshness or aggressiveness.
The spatialization is wide and deep, with a beautiful sense of air between the instruments. The timbres are rich, revealing a multitude of nuances. The breathtaking dynamics bring life to the most intense crescendos.
No matter the listening level, the E-4000 maintains control and delivers precise, balanced, and musical sound. An exceptional integrated amplifier, a true flagship of Accuphase’s expertise.
