Meze Audio 105 AER

Meze Audio 105 AER: The New Open-Back Hi-Fi Headphones Redefining Audiophile Listening

The Meze Audio 105 AER is the latest addition to the Romanian manufacturer’s lineup of audiophile headphones. This open-back model positions itself as an affordable option for high-fidelity sound enthusiasts, offering an immersive and dynamic listening experience.

Open-Back Design for an Expansive Soundstage

The 105 AER features an open-back design, a characteristic that allows it to deliver a wide and airy soundstage. This architecture promotes a natural reproduction of instruments and vocals, creating a sense of space and depth in the listening experience. Listeners can enjoy a musical experience closer to live performances, with better instrument placement perception and clear separation of different sound elements.

High-Performance Dynamic Drivers

At the heart of the 105 AER are 50mm dual-diaphragm dynamic drivers. These large speakers are designed to offer an extended frequency response, ranging from 5 Hz to 30 kHz. This wide bandwidth enables the headphones to faithfully reproduce deep bass as well as crystal-clear highs, ensuring a balanced sound across the entire spectrum.

Refined Sound Balance

The 105 AER’s sound profile is described as slightly warm, with present yet controlled bass, natural mids, and detailed highs that are not overly sharp. This versatile sound signature suits a wide variety of musical genres, from classical to rock, jazz, and electronic. Listeners will particularly appreciate the precision of the attacks and the richness of the timbres, allowing for analytical listening without sacrificing musical enjoyment.

Comfort and Ergonomics Designed for Long Listening Sessions

Meze Audio has paid special attention to the comfort of the 105 AER. The headphones feature a V-shaped dual-curve headband, a design element found in the brand’s high-end models. This design ensures optimal weight distribution across the top of the head, reducing fatigue during extended listening sessions. The generously padded ear cushions comfortably envelop the ears while contributing to acoustic isolation.

Quality Materials for Enhanced Durability

Although positioned as an entry-level model in Meze Audio’s open-back headphone lineup, the 105 AER does not compromise on build quality. The headband is made of cellulose composite reinforced with carbon fiber, a lightweight yet durable material. The earcup shells are crafted from robust ABS plastic, while the finely crafted grilles protecting the drivers combine aesthetics with functionality.

High Sensitivity for Broad Compatibility

With a sensitivity of 112 dB SPL and an impedance of 42 ohms, the 105 AER is easy to drive. This feature allows it to be used with both portable sources (smartphones, audiophile players) and more powerful headphone amplifiers. Audiophiles can fully enjoy the headphones’ sound quality in various setups, from on-the-go listening to stationary hi-fi systems.

Detachable Cable for Added Versatility

The 105 AER comes with a detachable cable, a valuable feature that increases the product’s longevity and offers the possibility of replacement or upgrades. The included cable ends with a 3.5mm mini-jack connector, ensuring compatibility with most audio sources. A 6.35mm jack adapter is also included for use with home hi-fi equipment.

Strategic Positioning in the Meze Audio Range

The 105 AER complements Meze Audio’s headphone lineup by offering an affordable open-back option. It serves as a more accessible alternative to the 109 PRO, while retaining many of the brand’s signature sound and comfort qualities. This model allows a broader audience to discover the Romanian brand’s acoustic philosophy, renowned for its products that combine sound performance with elegant design.
