The Pro-Ject CD Box E is a CD player designed for music enthusiasts seeking a compact and functional solution. Part of Pro-Ject’s “E” series, this model features a sleek design and technology tailored to meet user demands.
The Pro-Ject CD Box E is built exclusively for audio CD playback according to the Red Book standard. Its anti-shock mechanism ensures 1:1 binary precision for faithful and distortion-free sound reproduction. This player is also compatible with CD-R and CD-RW formats, offering versatility for users.
The built-in digital-to-analog converter (DAC) is a 24-bit/192 kHz model based on a multi-bit delta-sigma architecture. This configuration significantly reduces jitter, ensuring detailed and smooth sound. For audiophiles looking to further enhance sound quality, the player includes a coaxial digital output for connecting an external DAC.
Thanks to its meticulous design and high-quality components, the Pro-Ject CD Box E delivers precise and immersive sound reproduction. The low-impedance output buffer minimizes interference from cables and interconnections, ensuring faithful delivery of musical nuances.
The mechanical isolation of the chassis protects internal components from unwanted vibrations, contributing to sound purity. This attention to detail makes the CD Box E an ideal choice for discerning listeners.
The Pro-Ject CD Box E is part of the “E” series, which aims to provide accessible products without compromising quality. Compared to more advanced models like the CD Box S3 or CD Box DS3, the CD Box E focuses on the essentials: precise CD playback with a high-performance DAC.
For instance, the CD Box S3 introduces enhancements such as a larger LCD screen, a “slot-in” loading mechanism, and a DAC capable of handling resolutions up to 32-bit/384 kHz. These features make it a better fit for high-end hi-fi systems, albeit at a higher cost.
Yes, by adhering to the Red Book standard, the player ensures continuous playback of tracks on CDs designed for this feature.
Absolutely. The coaxial digital output allows you to connect an external DAC to further enhance sound quality.
The Pro-Ject CD Box E supports CD-R and CD-RW formats but is not designed to play MP3 files or other digital formats.
Yes, the front panel includes controls that allow you to navigate tracks directly on the device.

A very pleasant surprise! Everything about this little gem is positive: space-saving (minimalist design on a hi-fi unit), but above all, what a shock in terms of sound quality! Despite being part of a series of players designed based on the specifications of the first CD players from the 1980s (notably Phillips), following the so-called "Red Book" standard, it incorporates contemporary technical enhancements (high-resolution DAC, Delta Sigma and multi-bit, 1 bit at a time). I wasn’t expecting it—superb stereo, presence and clarity, depth, and natural sound—it’s all there.
As for the CD slot (the insertion slot), there’s no issue with CD handling or playback. You just need to insert the CD gently and smoothly, not forcefully or carelessly. CDs are automatically detected when presented flat and straight at the opening, and once detected, they are drawn in with a certain delicacy. I’m going into detail here because I wasn’t familiar with this system and was quite skeptical about it, which is why I had avoided this type of player until now. But here, well, simply put, bravo! It’s reliable and sturdy.
Without exaggeration, I’ve rediscovered my CDs. And to think I had a serious competitor before this player—a Marantz CD6007—which I was convinced held a certain qualitative edge. Well, goodbye Marantz, no regrets. It was, of course, a great player, but with the Pro-Ject CD Box E, you’re stepping up a level.
Is it because these little gems lean towards a more digital architecture on their "motherboard"? I couldn’t say, but in any case, there’s a truly noticeable improvement. Pair this with quality cabling, and you’re all set. Go for it—it’s all good!
Pro-Ject, a brand known for their expertise in vinyl turntables, surprises in the best way with this new product. They really seem to excel in everything they undertake. Bravo!
