The Magnat Alpha RS 12 is an active subwoofer designed to enhance the audio performance of home theater and hi-fi systems. This powerful and versatile subwoofer aims to enrich the listening experience by delivering deep and precise bass.
The Magnat Alpha RS 12 features a sleek and elegant design that blends seamlessly into any interior. Its solid MDF cabinet, available in black ash or mocha finish, ensures maximum stability to handle the speaker’s full power. With dimensions of 360 mm width, 465 mm height, and 440 mm depth, it is a medium-sized subwoofer suitable for most setups.
The front panel houses a large 30 cm long-throw driver. This high-performance woofer is equipped with an ultra-lightweight paper cone mounted on a rubber surround to maximize excursion. The magnetic system has been optimized using Klippel technology to ensure a powerful magnetic field and high responsiveness.
At the heart of the Magnat Alpha RS 12 lies its built-in Class D amplifier. Capable of delivering 120 W RMS continuous power and an impressive 240 W peak power, this amplifier ensures dynamic response and faithful reproduction of low frequencies. The Class D technology also offers the advantage of high impulse response, allowing the subwoofer to react instantly to even the slightest variations in the audio track.
To optimize low-frequency performance, the Magnat Alpha RS 12 employs a bass-reflex design with two Airflex ports located on the front panel. This system effectively extends the bass response down to an impressive frequency of 20 Hz. The Airflex ports are designed to minimize air turbulence noise, even at high listening levels.
One of the key strengths of the Magnat Alpha RS 12 is its versatility. It can easily integrate into virtually any existing home theater or hi-fi system, regardless of the brand of other components. To facilitate this integration, the subwoofer offers several adjustable settings:
The crossover frequency can be adjusted between 50 and 150 Hz, allowing the subwoofer to pair with a wide range of main speakers. A phase switch adjustable between 0 and 180 degrees helps prevent interference with other speakers in the system. The subwoofer’s volume is also adjustable to perfectly balance the bass level with the rest of the sound spectrum.
In terms of connectivity, the Magnat Alpha RS 12 offers great flexibility. It features a stereo RCA line input for connection to a preamplifier or the subwoofer output of a home theater amplifier. A high-level input is also available, allowing the subwoofer to connect directly to the speaker outputs of a traditional stereo amplifier.
The Magnat Alpha RS 12 stands out for its ability to reproduce deep and powerful bass while maintaining precision and control. Its frequency response ranges from 20 Hz to 200 Hz, covering the entire spectrum of audible low frequencies. This wide bandwidth allows the subwoofer to deliver both the deepest rumbles of movie sound effects and the lowest notes of musical instruments.
The high power of the amplifier, combined with the large 30 cm driver, enables the Magnat Alpha RS 12 to deliver impressive sound levels without audible distortion. The subwoofer is capable of filling even large rooms with bass while maintaining precise and articulate reproduction of fast transients.
Whether to enhance the cinematic experience or to add depth to music listening, the Magnat Alpha RS 12 proves to be a wise choice. In a home theater context, it allows you to physically feel explosions and special effects, adding an extra immersive dimension to movies and series. For music, it extends the bass response of main speakers, revealing previously inaudible details in low frequencies and adding more body and presence to bass instruments like the double bass or percussion.
Although powerful, the Magnat Alpha RS 12 features settings that allow you to adjust its sound level. It can therefore be used in an apartment, but it is recommended to set it moderately to avoid disturbing neighbors, especially since low frequencies easily travel through walls.
Yes, it is entirely possible to use two Magnat Alpha RS 12 subwoofers in a stereo configuration. This would provide a more even distribution of bass throughout the room and potentially achieve even higher sound levels.
As with most speakers, a short break-in period can be beneficial for the Magnat Alpha RS 12. This allows the mechanical suspensions to loosen up and reach their optimal performance. Normal use over a few dozen hours is usually sufficient for this process.

I had an affordable 8" active subwoofer that went down to 37Hz. This is on another level! Its size is imposing, but once you connect it and set it up properly, the quality and, above all, musical presence stand out. This beast fills a large room without any problems. Shipping was handled very quickly; I had it at home in less than 5 days. The RS 8 would probably have been enough for me; by default, I keep it at a little under half the maximum volume. Very happy with the purchase.
