The WiiM Ultra stands as the flagship of WiiM’s audio network players lineup. This compact, elegant device packs a wealth of features to meet the needs of the most demanding audiophiles while remaining accessible to music lovers seeking a high-quality streaming solution.
The WiiM Ultra features a sleek, compact aluminum chassis measuring 205 x 205 x 73 mm and weighing 1.3 kg. The device is distinguished by its 3.5-inch color touchscreen, protected by a glass panel, offering an intuitive interface to navigate menus and display playback information. A physical volume knob completes the package, enabling direct tactile volume control and playback pause.
At the heart of the WiiM Ultra is an ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M digital-to-analog converter (DAC), renowned for its outstanding performance. This 32-bit/384 kHz DAC ensures exceptionally high-quality conversion from digital to analog, guaranteeing faithful, detailed sound reproduction. The WiiM Ultra supports high-resolution audio playback up to 24-bit/192 kHz, delivering an immersive listening experience for the most discerning audiophiles.
The WiiM Ultra stands out for its wealth of connections. It offers HDMI ARC, line, phono, and optical inputs, allowing you to connect a wide range of audio sources, from turntables to TVs. On the output side, you’ll find line, optical, coaxial, USB, and a dedicated output for a subwoofer. A high-quality headphone jack powered by a TPA6120A2 amplifier rounds things off for premium private listening.
Equipped with the latest wireless technologies, the WiiM Ultra includes Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, ensuring a stable, high-quality connection for audio streaming. It’s compatible with a wide range of streaming services such as Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect, and supports Chromecast, DLNA, and Roon (pending certification). The multiroom function lets you synchronize multiple WiiM devices for seamless playback throughout your home.
The WiiM Ultra’s user interface is designed to deliver a smooth, intuitive experience. The touchscreen displays album art, playback info, and playlists, and provides quick access to presets and EQ settings. The WiiM Home app complements the experience by offering full control of the device from a smartphone or tablet.
The WiiM Ultra incorporates room correction technology that analyzes the acoustic environment to optimize sound reproduction. This feature finely adjusts sound parameters based on the specific acoustics of each listening space. In addition, the device offers gapless playback of high-resolution audio files, essential for fully enjoying live albums or classical works.
Compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri, the WiiM Ultra integrates seamlessly into a smart home ecosystem. It can be voice-controlled for convenient hands-free everyday use. The WiiM voice remote, sold separately, further enhances these capabilities by offering dedicated voice control.
But the WiiM streamer offers mature and engaging performance, while its killer combination of features, connectivity, and an outstanding user experience for the price is unmatched. Even though we tend to consider sound quality as the ultimate criterion in our tests, it is undeniable that we find the WiiM Ultra absolutely delightful to use. Its modern and user-friendly design appeals to a wide audience, which is just as important as its performance, which is significantly superior to that of the Pro Plus, awarded numerous prizes.
No, the WiiM Ultra does not support AirPlay. However, it offers many alternatives for streaming music from Apple devices, notably via Bluetooth or by using apps compatible with the protocols supported by the device.
Yes, the WiiM Ultra can act as a preamplifier thanks to its high-quality analog outputs. It can be connected directly to a power amplifier or active speakers.
Absolutely. The WiiM Ultra is DLNA-compatible and can access audio files stored on a NAS (Network Attached Storage) connected to the same network. Moreover, its USB port allows direct playback from an external hard drive.
While primarily designed for online streaming, the WiiM Ultra can operate without an Internet connection. You can use its inputs to connect local sources or play files via USB. However, some features like online streaming and updates will be unavailable without a connection.

Small device offering fantastic value for money.
Plenty of connection options
Nice screen
Far from a shabby DAC
USB connection allows playback of files stored on a USB stick or an SSD.
The only minor complaint is that, unlike an Eversolo, the software does not allow you to create compilations of tracks.
But is that really a big deal?
Don't hesitate to look for a user manual in French on the Internet.
Great purchase and, as is often the case with Home ciné solutions, competitive prices
