The Real Cable BM 400T is a 4 mm² speaker cable featuring a bi-metal structure that combines oxygen-free copper and silver. It incorporates TDC (Time Difference Control) technology, developed by the French brand, and is built on an architecture composed of 7 groups of conductors. Designed for hi-fi and home theater systems, it is suitable for installations requiring long cable runs while aiming to maintain stable and balanced audio signal transmission.
TDC (Time Difference Control) technology forms the technical foundation of the BM 400T. This innovative approach is based on the use of strands of different gauges within the same cable, with each diameter optimized for a specific frequency range. Fine strands favor the transmission of high frequencies, while larger sections efficiently handle low frequencies, naturally equalizing propagation times.
The internal architecture consists of 7 distinct groups: one multi-strand group dedicated to bass, four groups of small strands for the midrange, and two groups of fine silver strands specially designed for treble. This distribution allows the specific conductive properties of each metal to be exploited according to their frequency domain of excellence.
The transparent sheath maintains optimal spacing between the two conductors, significantly reducing parasitic capacitive effects. This geometric design preserves signal dynamics while minimizing internal electromagnetic interactions.
The BM 400T uses exclusively bi-metal conductors made of 99.99% oxygen-free copper and silver. OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) ensures flawless conductivity across the entire spectrum, while SPC (Silver Plated Copper) brings its superior conductivity to high frequencies without introducing the dryness often associated with silver cables.
This bi-metal combination demonstrates its intelligence in balancing sonic characteristics. Silver, reserved for the two groups dedicated to treble, brings finesse and resolution to the upper spectrum. Copper, which makes up the majority of the construction, preserves the richness of the midrange and the depth of the bass. Controlled oxidation of both metals guarantees stable performance over time.
The 4mm² cross-section places this cable in the power transmission category, suitable for amplifiers delivering high power and for distances greater than 3 meters. This generous gauge maintains low linear resistance, preserving the amplifier’s damping factor.
The BM 400T delivers a particularly balanced sonic signature, avoiding the excessive coloration often associated with bi-metal cables. The bass benefits from excellent dynamics and remarkable definition, without the sluggishness sometimes found in large-gauge cables. The midrange reveals particular richness, with precise outlining of voices and acoustic instruments.
The contribution of silver is evident in the treble, with remarkable extension and exceptional grain finesse, never veering into analytical or aggressive territory. This makes it a cable particularly well-suited to systems tending toward warmth, which it reveals without distorting.
The resulting soundstage offers impressive lateral openness with perfectly layered depth. This quality stems directly from TDC technology, which maintains temporal coherence across different frequencies.
In home theater setups, the BM 400T excels at reproducing dynamic effects while preserving dialogue intelligibility. Its versatility also makes it highly effective in bi-wiring configurations, where its frequency differentiation capabilities are fully expressed.
No, the integration of silver in the BM 400T is particularly well controlled. Only two out of seven groups use this metal, exclusively for treble. This balanced proportion brings finesse and extension without creating tonal imbalance. Numerous user reviews confirm the absence of aggressiveness, even on naturally bright systems.
The 4mm² cross-section allows for long runs without significant loss. For home use, lengths of 15 to 20 meters remain perfectly viable. Beyond that, linear resistance could affect the damping factor, especially with low-impedance speakers.
Absolutely. The TDC technology and the frequency distribution of the conductors make the BM 400T an excellent candidate for bi-wiring. Its ability to differentiate frequency ranges finds its optimal expression in this configuration, revealing nuances often masked in single wiring.
Although no technical requirement imposes it, some experienced users note a slight preference for one direction after a few hours of use. This observation, though subjective, is worth testing during final installation.
The BM 400T offers greater extension and finesse in the treble compared to all-copper TDC models. Conversely, the latter may be better suited to already highly analytical systems where silver could accentuate this characteristic. The choice depends on the desired balance.
Like any quality cable, the BM 400T benefits from a stabilization period of about 50 hours of use. Initial listening sessions may seem slightly reserved, as the dielectrics stabilize and the conductors reach their optimal behavior.
Absolutely. Its tonal neutrality and low coloration make it an excellent partner for tube electronics. It reveals the natural musicality of these amplifiers without adding dryness, while providing the precision needed to balance their sometimes overly warm character.

Marantz P6004 amp and Duevel Planets. I’ve broken in the cables now. Lots of detail, plenty of bass and treble, but they’re a bit shiny, with a recessed midrange. Unpleasant effect of a “muted” or muffled sound. I’m waiting for my new amp to see if more power fixes this issue.
