Sony ULT Field 3 is the new portable Bluetooth speaker that expands the ULT Power Sound range launched in 2024. Positioned between the compact ULT Field 1 and the powerful ULT Field 5, it delivers quality sound in a transportable format. Its versatile design allows for both vertical and horizontal use, while its IP67-certified durability protects it against water, dust, and shocks. The ULT Field 3 adopts a rectangular silhouette, marking a break from the curved lines of previous Sony generations. This design choice is not just aesthetic: the speaker works perfectly whether placed vertically or horizontally, adapting to any space.

Durability is one of this model’s main strengths. With IP67 certification, it effectively resists water (immersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes), dust, and even rust. Sony has also reinforced its shock resistance, making it particularly suitable for outdoor use.

With its compact dimensions (256 x 113 x 79 mm) and weight of 1.2 kg, the ULT Field 3 remains easy to carry. The adjustable and fully detachable shoulder strap included in the package enhances this portability. The speaker also includes Sound Field Optimisation technology, which analyzes the acoustic environment and automatically adjusts the output to compensate for ambient noise. This function ensures optimal clarity even in noisy settings like a lively beach or a party.

Advanced connectivity and multi-speaker synchronization

The ULT Field 3 uses Bluetooth 5.2, offering a stable, high-quality connection with your devices. Compatible with SBC and AAC codecs, it ensures faithful transmission from virtually any mobile device.

The multipoint function is a major everyday advantage: the speaker can maintain simultaneous connections with two Bluetooth devices, automatically switching between them when a call is received or playback is started. For Android users, Google Fast Pair technology simplifies the initial pairing process.

The ULT Field 3 integrates seamlessly into an extended audio system thanks to two key features. Party Connect mode allows you to sync up to 100 compatible speakers to play the same music simultaneously. Even more interesting for audiophiles, stereo pairing lets you link two ULT Field 3 units to create true left and right channel separation.

Exceptional battery life and energy features

One of the ULT Field 3’s major strengths is its battery, capable of delivering up to 24 hours of music in standard use. This performance is a game-changer for extended on-the-go use. Note, however, that this battery life drops to about 5 hours when used at maximum volume.

Charging is done via the USB Type-C port on the back. Sony has included a particularly effective fast-charging feature: 10 minutes plugged in is enough to recover 2 hours of battery life, ideal in emergencies.

The energy versatility goes even further, as the speaker can also serve as a power bank to charge your other devices. This valuable feature on the go turns your speaker into a backup power station for your smartphone.

Customization and intuitive control

To go beyond basic settings, Sony offers the Sound Connect app (formerly Music Center) available on iOS and Android. This interface unlocks the full potential for customization: a 7-band equalizer to adjust the sound signature to your preferences, lighting effects control, and pairing management for Party Connect mode or stereo pairing.

The built-in microphone turns the speaker into an efficient hands-free kit. Sony’s echo-canceling technology ensures clear communication during phone calls, without the reverberation often encountered with Bluetooth speakers.

Notable evolution compared to the previous model

The ULT Field 3 is the direct successor to the SRS-XE300 model, marking a significant evolution both aesthetically and technically. The move to a more assertive rectangular design comes with notable improvements in sound quality, especially in terms of clarity and bass performance.

Within the ULT Power Sound range, it stands as an intermediate option between the more compact ULT Field 1 and the larger, better-equipped ULT Field 5. The latter stands out with a dual-stage bass amplifier and a 10-band equalizer (compared to 7 for the ULT Field 3).

This strategy is part of a long-term vision, as Sony plans to gradually phase out its older portable speaker series by 2026 to focus entirely on the ULT line.
