Frequently Asked Questions

How should I ideally position the SUB8 in my room?

The ideal placement varies depending on your room’s acoustics. Contrary to popular belief, placing the subwoofer in a corner can excessively boost certain frequencies. The “subwoofer crawl” method is recommended: temporarily place the SUB8 at your listening position, then move around the room to identify the spots where the bass sounds most balanced. These locations will be the best positions for your subwoofer.

How should I correctly set the low-pass filter?

The optimal setting mainly depends on your main speakers. As a general rule, the low-pass filter should be set close to the lower limit of your speakers’ frequency response. For compact speakers with limited bass response, a setting around 80-100 Hz is often appropriate. For larger bookshelf speakers, a setting between 60-80 Hz may be preferable. The goal is to achieve a smooth transition without excessive overlap or a “gap” in the response.

What is the phase switch for, and how do I know which setting to use?

The phase switch (0° or 180°) helps resolve interaction issues between the subwoofer and main speakers. When the sound waves from different speakers are not aligned, certain frequencies can cancel each other out. To determine the best setting, listen to a track with rich bass in both positions and choose the one that produces the fullest, most defined bass. If the difference is subtle, the 0° setting is generally appropriate.
