Roberts Revival iStream 3L black

The Roberts Revival iStream 3L continues the legacy of the British brand in the field of portable radios while integrating contemporary streaming technologies. This tabletop radio combines traditional DAB/DAB+/FM reception with internet streaming via Wi-Fi, featuring built-in music services and Bluetooth connectivity. Its wooden acoustic cabinet and vintage design recall the 1950s aesthetic that made Roberts famous.

Construction and Design: Craftsmanship Serving Acoustics

The Revival iStream 3L’s cabinet is crafted from wood, setting it apart from the plastic models on the market. This material choice directly influences the sound signature, as wood provides a natural resonance that enriches audio reproduction. The dimensions of 25 × 16.6 × 10.5 cm and a weight of 1.73 kg reflect this solid construction.

The aesthetic is directly inspired by the iconic 1950s design that established Roberts’ reputation. The brass front grille, leather finishes, and integrated carrying handle adhere to the visual codes of the era while concealing modern electronics. The color LCD screen deliberately contrasts with this retro approach, clearly displaying playback information and navigation menus.

The design prioritizes portability without sacrificing robustness. The dual power system allows operation via mains with the supplied adapter or with six AA batteries, which can be rechargeable NiMH cells charged directly in the device. This energy flexibility greatly expands the range of usage scenarios.

Radio Reception and Streaming: Convergence of Technologies

The Revival iStream 3L covers the entire contemporary radio spectrum. The DAB and DAB+ bands (174-240 MHz) sit alongside traditional FM (87.5-108 MHz), allowing up to 30 stations to be stored. The telescopic antenna extends to optimize reception of broadcast signals.

Dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity (2.4 and 5 GHz) provides access to thousands of internet radio stations worldwide. This feature transforms the radio into a gateway to content inaccessible via traditional airwaves, from themed stations to specialized podcasts. The directory of 40 storable internet stations allows for quick navigation among favorites.

Native integration of Spotify Connect, Deezer, and Amazon Prime Music sets this apart from simple Bluetooth streaming. These services operate independently of your smartphone once playback is started, avoiding interruptions from calls or notifications. The radio thus becomes autonomous, managing audio streams directly without relying on the source device.

Interface and Ergonomics: Physical and Digital Control

The front panel of the Revival iStream 3L favors physical controls. The central volume knob also acts as a power switch with a short press. The Mode button allows you to switch between different audio sources, while the Tuning/Select knob navigates menus and selects options.

The UNDOK app complements this tactile interface by offering full remote control from a smartphone or tablet. This multi-brand app also enables multiroom management with other compatible devices, creating a coherent audio ecosystem throughout the home.

The color screen displays contextual information: station name, song title, time, or configuration settings. Its brightness adjusts according to ambient light, preventing nighttime light pollution while maintaining optimal daytime readability.

Extended Connectivity and Practical Features

Beyond radio reception, the Revival iStream 3L offers several connection modes. Bluetooth pairing enables streaming from smartphones, tablets, or computers. The 3.5 mm auxiliary jack input accommodates analog sources, while the same-format headphone output allows for private listening.

The front USB port serves a dual purpose: playing music files from USB drives or external disks, and charging mobile devices. This built-in charging function is especially convenient for bedside use, saving a wall outlet.

The programmable dual alarm function turns the device into a complete clock radio. Each alarm can use different sources: DAB/FM stations, internet radio, or a simple buzzer. The sleep timer rounds out these time-based features, letting you fall asleep to music with automatic shutoff.
