Sonoro Platinum matte white
Overview
With its clean lines and rounded-edge chassis, this belt-drive turntable brings analog sound into a decidedly contemporary ecosystem. Designed and developed in Germany by Sonoro, a brand renowned since 2006 for its designer audio systems, it combines the precision engineering expected from a serious record player with comprehensive digital connectivity: built-in phono preamplifier, aptX HD Bluetooth, and a USB port for digitizing your collection.
Mechanics designed for stability
At the heart of the Platinum is a DC motor whose speed is controlled by optical detection, ensuring constant rotation at 33⅓ or 45 rpm with wow and flutter below 0.15%. The 300 mm die-cast aluminum platter provides enough inertia to smooth out micro-variations, while the high-quality lacquered chassis gives the unit an overall weight of around 5.2 kg, contributing to its stability.
The statically balanced S-shaped tonearm has an effective length of 224 mm and moves on low-friction precision bearings. Its height is adjustable to accommodate different cartridges, and tracking force can be set from 0 to 2.5 grams via the classic counterweight. Anti-skating is controlled by a rotary selector at the base of the arm, a more precise solution than thread-and-weight systems.
The Ortofon 2M Red supplied as standard
Sonoro supplies the Platinum with a factory pre-mounted and aligned Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. This Danish moving magnet cartridge, a benchmark in the entry-level audiophile segment, features an elliptical stylus with 8/18 μm radii that traces the groove with precision. Its 5.5 mV output voltage ensures a comfortable signal level for any phono preamplifier. Ortofon describes the sound as open and dynamic, with a touch of warmth in the midrange.
The headshell attaches via a bayonet mount, making it easy to replace or upgrade to other models. The 2M Red can directly accept 2M Blue or 2M Silver stylus assemblies, allowing you to move upmarket without changing the cartridge body. The tonearm’s acceptable cartridge weight (5 to 7.5 g) remains compatible with most MM cartridges on the market.
Analog and digital connections
The built-in phono preamplifier boosts the MM cartridge signal up to line level, making the Platinum compatible with any amplifier without a dedicated phono input. A switch on the rear lets you disable it if you prefer to use a higher-quality external preamp. The RCA outputs are gold-plated and deliver a 300 mV signal when the preamplifier is enabled.
Bluetooth 5.2 transmission supports SBC, aptX, and aptX HD codecs, allowing listening on a wireless speaker or headphones with near-CD quality when using aptX HD. The pairing button is located directly on the chassis, next to the speed selector. The USB 1.1 port allows you to digitize your records via a Windows or Mac computer at 16-bit / 48 kHz resolution, sufficient for archiving a collection in a standard audio format.
Fully manual operation
The Platinum falls into the category of manual turntables: the user places the arm on the groove at the start of a side and returns it to its rest once playback is finished. A cueing lever lets you lower and raise the stylus without handling the arm directly, reducing the risk of accidents on the record. This approach requires you to pay attention at the end of each side, as the platter continues to spin until you intervene.
This choice reflects a philosophy widely shared among vinyl enthusiasts: fewer automatic mechanisms mean fewer components that could affect groove tracking or generate unwanted noise. Long-term maintenance is also simplified.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge be replaced with a higher-end model?
Yes, the bayonet-mount headshell can be easily removed. The 2M Red stylus can also be swapped for a 2M Blue stylus without changing the cartridge body, providing a cost-effective upgrade path. To move up to the 2M Bronze or Black, you will need to replace the entire cartridge, as these models use a different motor.
Can the built-in preamplifier be disabled?
Yes, a switch on the back (marked PRE AMP) lets you toggle between line and phono modes. In the OFF position, the unamplified signal is output directly to be handled by an external preamplifier or the phono input of an amplifier.
Can you digitize your records with this turntable?
The USB port, coupled with the built-in analog-to-digital converter, allows you to record the signal on a computer at 16-bit / 48 kHz. Audio recording software such as Audacity can capture and edit the tracks.
What is the Bluetooth range?
The specified range is about 10 meters in open space. Walls or obstacles may reduce this distance. The aptX HD codec transmits audio up to 24-bit / 48 kHz when the receiver also supports it.
Do you need to adjust the cartridge yourself after unpacking?
The 2M Red cartridge is pre-mounted and aligned at the factory. Only the tracking force (recommended at 1.8 g) and anti-skating need to be set before first use. The supplied manual details each step with illustrations.
What happens at the end of a side with a manual turntable?
The platter keeps spinning and the stylus remains in the run-out groove until the user intervenes. You should therefore lift the arm as soon as the music ends to avoid unnecessary wear on the stylus and the run-out groove.
Which amplifiers are compatible?
With the preamplifier enabled, the Platinum connects to any RCA line input (AUX, CD, etc.). With the preamplifier disabled, it requires an MM phono input with a 47 kΩ load impedance. The Bluetooth connection also allows use with active speakers or amplifiers equipped with this interface.
