Overview
A slender silhouette, sides sculpted in a diamond shape, and the rare ability to go below 40 Hz despite a compact form factor. The A6 EVO II embodies the philosophy of Gold Note: offering speakers made in Tuscany that combine aesthetic refinement with real-world acoustic performance. This second generation refines the formula with upgraded drivers and a newly designed front baffle.
Construction and materials: rigidity in the service of sound
The reinforced HDF cabinet adopts a distinctive angular geometry. The diamond-cut side panels are not just a stylistic exercise: their shape and the aluminum inserts they incorporate play an active role in controlling resonances. This structure ensures efficient dissipation of unwanted vibrations, a prerequisite for clean reproduction across the entire spectrum.
The available finishes (gloss walnut, matt walnut, combined with a black front panel) come from Italian cabinetmakers who also supply other renowned manufacturers from the peninsula. The solid wood plinth, supplied separately, tilts the speaker slightly backwards and houses the down-firing bass-reflex port.
Drivers manufactured in Italy
The A6 EVO II deploys four drivers in a three-way configuration. The two 14 cm (5.5”) treated-paper mid-woofers are mounted on the front baffle. Equipped with high-power magnets and stiffened aluminum frames, they handle midrange and part of the bass with a fast transient response. The 28 mm (1.1”) silk dome tweeter takes over above 2000 Hz.
The internal 16.5 cm (6”) subwoofer, housed in its own sealed chamber, is one of the main strengths of this floorstander. Its die-cast metal chassis and down-firing orientation, combined with the bottom bass-reflex port, allow it to reach 40 Hz without the placement constraints usually associated with such extension.
Crossover and internal components
The 12 dB/octave crossover network operates at 70 Hz (between subwoofer and mid-woofers) and 2000 Hz (between mid-woofers and tweeter. Gold Note has selected Mundorf and Clarity capacitors and inductors for this crossover, established benchmarks in the field of audio components. The proprietary gold-plated, nickel-free binding posts accept generously sized cables.
System matching and amplification
With a sensitivity of 88 dB (2.83V/1m) and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, the A6 EVO II is easy to drive. A 20-watt amplifier is enough to bring it to life, although the 150-watt RMS power handling leaves comfortable headroom for more powerful systems. The down-firing bass-reflex port allows relatively close placement to side and rear walls, which simplifies installation in smaller rooms.
The supplied plinth, 288 mm wide and 441 mm deep, enlarges the footprint and provides the necessary stability for these columns, which weigh 30 kg each. Spikes and decoupling pads are included to adapt the installation to the floor covering.
Sound signature and changes from the first generation
The A6 EVO II replaces the A6 EVO with several notable changes. The tweeter increases in diameter (1.1” instead of 1”), the mid-woofers go from 12.5 to 14 cm, and the internal subwoofer is around 25% larger than on the previous version. The crossover frequency between subwoofer and mid-woofers has been raised from 60 to 70 Hz, redistributing the workload between the drivers.
The sonic character leans towards analytical and detailed, with a crisp attack on transients. This liveliness coexists with a smoothness in the top end, inherited from the silk dome, which avoids listening fatigue over long sessions. The bass extension is impressive given the size, even if the sheer physical impact in the very low end remains below what larger floorstanders can offer.

Frequently Asked Questions
What type of amplifier is suitable for the A6 EVO II?
The 88 dB sensitivity and 4-ohm impedance make these speakers compatible with most integrated amplifiers or power amps on the market. A unit delivering 20 to 50 watts in class A or A/B is sufficient for home listening in a 15 to 25 m² room. Tube amplifiers work well as long as their output impedance is matched to the 4-ohm load.
Can the A6 EVO II be used without an additional subwoofer?
The built-in subwoofer goes down to 40 Hz, which covers most of the musical spectrum. An external subwoofer will only bring a significant benefit for fans of electronic music with pronounced infrabass, or for home cinema use with LFE effects.
What is the recommended distance from the walls?
The down-firing bass-reflex design tolerates relatively close proximity to room boundaries. A distance of 20 to 40 cm from the rear wall generally yields good results. Adjustments will still be needed depending on the room’s acoustics, but these speakers do not require the clear space demanded by some floorstanders with conventional rear-firing ports.
Does the A6 EVO II pair well with other Gold Note components?
What is the recommended break-in time?
Paper-cone drivers need a running-in period before reaching their nominal performance. Allow around 50 to 80 hours of listening at moderate volume for the suspensions to loosen up and for the bass to gain in extension and fluidity.
