Five years of commercial success for the 3000 series could have justified a simple cosmetic refresh. SVS chose a different path: completely redesigning its most popular sealed subwoofer by integrating the innovations developed for the high-end 17-Ultra and 5000 R|Evolution ranges. The result is 50% more power, five times the digital processing and 20 to 60% lower distortion depending on frequency.

A driver redesigned from the ground up

The 33 cm transducer keeps its diameter but radically changes in design. Its vented aluminum cone combines lightness and rigidity for exemplary pistonic behavior, while the SBR rubber surround and dual-layer Nomex spider allow for considerable excursion: 30.1 mm linear travel (Xmax) and up to 72.9 mm maximum mechanical excursion. This range of movement enables the driver to move large volumes of air without leaving its linear operating zone.

The motor driving this transducer weighs 10.5 kg on its own. Two toroidal ferrite magnets generate the magnetic field in which a flat, split-wound voice coil moves. This particular geometry maintains constant motor force even at the highest excursions, where conventional coils lose efficiency. A 6063 aluminum shorting ring completes the assembly to reduce distortion caused by eddy currents. The whole unit is mounted on a cast aluminum frame whose geometry has been optimized using finite element analysis.

Amplification and digital processing

The Class D amplifier delivers 1200 W continuous and can reach peaks above 4000 W. Its discrete MOSFET output stage provides precise control over the driver while keeping total harmonic distortion below 0.05% at rated power. The LLC switching power supply, featuring a regulated 160 V rail, conditions the mains current to ensure stable performance regardless of power conditions.

The Analog Devices digital processor clocked at 295 MHz is one of the major upgrades compared to the previous generation. With 56-bit double-precision processing and a signal-to-noise ratio above 120 dB at the converter stage, this digital section monitors voltage, current, driver excursion and amplifier temperature in real time. This information makes it possible to exploit the subwoofer’s capabilities to the fullest without ever exceeding safe operating limits.

Settings and integration into an audio system

The SVS Subwoofer Control app, available on iOS, Android and Amazon Fire, provides access to all parameters: volume, crossover frequency, continuously variable phase, polarity, room gain compensation and six parametric equalizers with adjustable frequency, gain and Q factor. Three memory presets allow quick switching between different configurations depending on what you’re listening to. An update scheduled for the first quarter of 2026 will add an automatic calibration function (Auto Room EQ) that will analyze the acoustic response of the room via the smartphone’s microphone and apply appropriate corrections.

The OLED screen on the rear panel offers direct access to the main settings without using the app, with a display inversion function that’s handy when the subwoofer is positioned up high. Connectivity includes an unbalanced RCA input and a balanced XLR input, the latter accepting levels up to +14 dBu so it can be used both in home installations and professional setups. A USB port powers the optional SVS SoundPath wireless adapter, and a 3.5 mm trigger input allows automatic power-on via an amplifier or AV processor.

Acoustic behavior and placement

The sealed enclosure provides a natural 12 dB per octave roll-off below the resonance frequency, resulting in tight, well-defined bass. The response extends from 17 to 230 Hz (±3 dB) in quasi-anechoic measurements, with an additional 2 to 3 Hz of extension in small to medium-sized rooms thanks to boundary reinforcement. This design leverages the room’s acoustics rather than fighting them: the room gain compensation function built into the DSP can be used to tame the very lowest frequencies if reinforcement becomes excessive.

The thick MDF cabinet, reinforced with internal bracing, forms a rigid, inert enclosure. With its compact dimensions (397 × 385 × 426 mm including grille) and its weight of 24.9 kg, the SB-3000 R|Evolution is easier to place than a bass-reflex subwoofer offering similar performance. The non-resonant ABS grille covered with acoustic fabric attaches magnetically. Screw-in iso-elastomer feet decouple the subwoofer from the floor to limit vibration transfer to the building structure.

Finishes and warranty

The SB-3000 R|Evolution is available in three finishes: black ash, piano gloss black and piano gloss white. Each unit comes with its grille, feet, a 1.8 m power cable and a quick start guide. SVS backs this subwoofer with a five-year manufacturer’s warranty.
