Overview

Fourth generation of the RP series, this turntable builds on the fundamentals that made previous models successful while modernizing the motor and chassis. Reloop has developed a new direct-drive mechanism and revised the vibration isolation, two points often criticized in earlier generations. The control layout remains familiar: a DJ accustomed to club turntables will feel right at home.

A redesigned motor for cueing and scratching

The heart of the RP 5000 MK4 is a quartz-controlled 8-pole, 3-phase brushless DC motor. Its torque of 2.5 kg/cm meets the standard expected in the booth. The platter reaches its nominal speed in less than one second, facilitating instant starts and recoveries after a backspin.

Wow and flutter remain contained below 0.08% in typical weighted value (measurement at 3 kHz RMS). In practice, this means stable rotation even during rhythmically tight passages or repeated platter manipulations. Electronic braking completes the system and enables clean stops without jolts.

Reinforced chassis and anti-vibration feet

Reloop has revised the internal structure to reduce transmission of parasitic low frequencies. The new feet better absorb vibrations from the floor, a recurring problem in environments where the sound system generates high levels. The chassis weighs 8 kg in total, sufficient mass to ensure a certain inertia without making the turntable difficult to transport.

The internal switching power supply has also been redesigned. It accepts a voltage of 100 to 240 V (50/60 Hz) and consumes only 2 W, while limiting electromagnetic interference that could affect the phono signal.

S-shaped tonearm and cartridge compatibility

The tonearm adopts a statically balanced S-shape, a classic configuration that offers a good compromise between groove tracking and ease of adjustment. The hydraulic lifter lowers the cartridge smoothly, protecting the stylus tip during needle drops. The anti-skating covers a range of 0 to 7 g, allowing the use of various cartridges.

The universal SME-type connection accepts standard headshells (compatible weight between 3.5 and 8.5 g). Reloop does not supply a cartridge or headshell: they must be purchased separately, which leaves the choice of model according to playback or scratching preferences.

Pitch control and reverse function

Three variation ranges are available: ±8% for fine cueing, ±16% for wider adjustments, and ±50% for creative effects or extreme slowdowns. The linear fader operates without detents, avoiding catches when passing through zero. A reset button instantly returns the pitch to 0%.

The reverse function reverses the playback direction without interrupting platter rotation. Useful for certain scratch techniques, it can also be used to create occasional sound effects. The tempo scale printed on the turntable remains legible even under reduced lighting.

Three playback speeds

The RP 5000 MK4 rotates at 33⅓, 45, and 78 RPM. The third speed will interest those who collect vintage pressings or wish to sample 78 RPM records. A strobe integrated into the platter allows visual verification of rotation stability at each speed.

Ergonomics and connectivity

The rear panel is slightly recessed, a layout that facilitates installation in “battle” configuration (turntable rotated 90°) without cables protruding from the furniture. The RCA phono output is gold-plated to limit oxidation. The IEC power cable is detachable, simplifying replacement in case of failure or country change.

Storage space is provided on the chassis for the 45 RPM adapter and the headshell holder, two accessories that are easily misplaced. A retractable LED illuminates the stylus area, practical for dark environments.

The turntable is prepared to receive a dust cover, sold separately.

Included accessories

The box contains the platter, felt mat, slip sheet, counterweight, RCA phono cable with ground wire, power cable, and user manual. The absence of a pre-mounted cartridge may be surprising at this price point, but it leaves complete freedom in cartridge choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the cartridge and headshell included?

No. The turntable is delivered without a cartridge or headshell. You will need to choose a model compatible with the SME connection and a weight between 3.5 and 8.5 g. This approach allows selection of a cartridge suited to your use (scratching, listening, mixing) rather than being stuck with an entry-level model.

Is the RP 5000 MK4 compatible with DVS systems?

Yes. The phono output can be connected to a DVS audio interface such as the Reloop Flux Go or any other compatible device for Serato, Traktor, or rekordbox. The high torque and motor stability are well suited for timecode control.

What is the main difference from the RP-4000 MK2 series?

Motor torque increases from 1.8 kg/cm on the RP-4000 MK2 to 2.5 kg/cm on the RP-5000 MK4. The chassis has been reinforced, the internal power supply redesigned, and the anti-vibration feet improved. The ±50% pitch range is also a new feature.
