Wireless transmission designed for cluttered environments

The Soundpath Multi-Band operates exclusively on the 5.2 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands, avoiding the particularly congested 2.4 GHz band found in modern homes. The system automatically switches between these two frequencies to select the one with the least interference at any given moment. With 46 available channels, the adapter generally finds a stable slot even in environments filled with Wi-Fi routers, connected security cameras, smart TVs, and other wireless devices.

This approach differs from the brand’s Tri-Band model, which also includes the 2.4 GHz band. The decision to exclude the latter on the Multi-Band reflects a focus on setups where low-frequency interference is an issue.

Audio quality and latency

The transmitted signal reaches a resolution of 24-bit/48 kHz, a notch above standard CD quality (16-bit). The bandwidth covers 8 Hz to 20 kHz with a tolerance of ±0.5 dB, sufficient to reproduce the full audible spectrum and the infrasonic frequencies handled by subwoofers.

The stated latency is under 15 microseconds. Such a low figure makes any delay between picture and sound imperceptible, even to very discerning ears. For home cinema use where lip sync matters, this characteristic eliminates the need for manual delay adjustments on the amplifier.

Connectivity and possible configurations

The kit includes a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter connects to the subwoofer output (LFE) or stereo pre-outs of an amplifier, TV, or any audio source with an RCA output. The receiver connects to the input of the subwoofer, a powered speaker, or an external amplifier.

A single transmitter can drive up to four receivers simultaneously. This capability enables several scenarios:

• Powering two subwoofers placed in different locations within the same room
• Creating a secondary listening zone in an adjacent room
• Connecting powered rear surround speakers without running additional cables

Left-right stereo transmission allows you to connect a pair of active speakers, not just a mono subwoofer.

Installation and setup

Installation comes down to connecting the supplied RCA cables to the two units, powering them via USB, then pairing them by pressing a button on each unit. No software or app is required. Both modules are compact and can be attached to the back of a subwoofer or speaker using the adhesive strips typically included with this type of SVS product.

The 50-meter range in open space is reduced in the presence of obstacles (walls, furniture). In a typical living room, the effective distance remains more than sufficient to place a subwoofer in the opposite corner from the amplifier.

Universal compatibility

Although designed by SVS, this adapter works with any active subwoofer or powered speaker with an RCA input. The brand of the receiving equipment does not matter. The system is also suitable for linking a secondary stereo amplifier driving passive speakers in another zone.
