Overview
Triangle expands its cable range with the Black & Red series, a new family of connectors for hi-fi and home theater systems. The Black Serie cable is a pair of pre-assembled speaker cables that relies on a structure of high-purity OFC copper conductors and an original insulation combining cotton and PVC. Sold with their BP450 banana plugs, these 2.5-meter cables are ready to use and connect without tools to most standard binding posts.
A carefully crafted conductor structure
The conductor uses OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) with a purity of 99.99%. This type of copper, refined to eliminate residual oxygen, offers superior conductivity compared to standard industrial copper and better stability over time. The multi-strand structure consists of 7 bundles of 32 strands each, a geometry that promotes cable flexibility while maintaining low linear resistance.
The 1.5 mm² cross-section (15 AWG equivalent) per conductor is suitable for medium-sized installations where the distance between amplifier and speakers does not exceed a few meters. For long runs or high-power systems, a larger cross-section would be preferable.
Insulation inspired by the Red series
The Black Serie cable insulation adopts the Red series philosophy with a dual-level construction. The inner layer combines cotton and flexible PVC, ensuring good vibration absorption and effective conductor protection. The outer sheath in braided textile and PVC combines flexibility and mechanical strength, while protecting the cable from electromagnetic interference.
The detail of this triple-layer insulation: a cotton sheet surrounds the conductor, followed by cotton insulation, then a PVC sheath. The assembly is covered with the woven cotton sheath visible on the outside. Natural fibers have good dielectric properties and do not accumulate static charge. The textile braiding facilitates discreet integration of the cable into the listening space.
Directional cables with arrow marking
Triangle has designed these cables as directional. An arrow marking indicates the signal flow direction, from the amplifier to the speakers. This directionality is explained by the copper manufacturing process: during wire drawing, the metal’s crystalline structure organizes in a given direction. Respecting this direction during installation ensures a consistent setup according to audiophile standards.
Gold-plated banana plugs
The BP450 plugs fitted to the Black Serie cable are gold-plated, a treatment that protects the contact from oxidation and ensures stable conductivity over time. Their 3.6 mm diameter adapts to 4 mm female binding posts, the most common standard on current hi-fi amplifiers and speakers. The spring-leaf retention system guarantees a firm contact in the binding post without risk of accidental disconnection.
Installation is tool-free: simply insert the banana plug into the binding post.
Positioning within the Triangle range
Triangle structures its cable range in three levels. The Opera series, with its transparent PVC insulation, occupies the entry level. The Black Serie cable is positioned at the intermediate level with its cotton/PVC insulation inspired by the upper series. The Red series, at the top of the range, takes material and construction quality further.
This mid-range positioning makes the Black Serie a relevant choice for balanced hi-fi systems: it provides superior manufacturing care compared to the Opera without reaching the price point of the Red series.
