A cellulose-graphite, downward-firing driver

Integration into the Smart ecosystem

The sub pairs wirelessly with compatible products: Smart Soundbar 9, Smart Soundbar 10, Smart Sounddeck 100, Smart Connect 5.1, or Smart Amp 5.1. Once connected, volume, phase, and LFE channel level adjustments are made from the on-screen display (OSD) menu on the TV, using the remote control of the soundbar or amplifier. Canton chose to centralize control rather than multiply knobs on the subwoofer itself.

In wired mode, the Smart Sub 8 offers two behaviors: always on, or automatic standby when no signal is detected. Standby power consumption is specified as less than 0.5 W. A selector on the rear lets you switch between wireless and wired modes.

Fine-tuned settings and refined finish

The crossover frequency is adjustable between 50 and 200 Hz, a range that covers common needs whether you pair the sub with compact satellite speakers or larger floorstanding models with deeper bass extension. The phase setting (0° or 180°, or continuously variable depending on the control source) allows you to time-align the subwoofer with the main speakers.

The built-in digital amplifier delivers 200 W of music power. Canton integrates its SC technology, a protection circuit that monitors driver excursion and adjusts the signal to prevent distortion or damage in case of excessive demand.

Aesthetically, the top of the subwoofer is covered with a polished glass plate, a design choice that echoes the Smart Soundbars in the range. The available finishes (satin matte black, satin white) match the other products in the series. Height-adjustable feet make it possible to compensate for uneven floors or fine-tune the mechanical coupling with the surface.
