Overview
Successor to the Atelier 900, the InWall 9 continues the concept of a built‑in wall speaker that Canton has been developing for several years within its Atelier series. This 3‑way bass‑reflex model relies on next‑generation aluminum‑titanium cones and a design intended to visually disappear while delivering sound quality worthy of traditional speakers. An interesting option for installations where looks matter just as much as sound.
A 3‑way configuration with passive radiators
The InWall 9 adopts a D’Appolito layout: the 25 mm AB tweeter is in the center, flanked by a 128 mm midrange and a 128 mm woofer, both ATB. Two passive radiators of the same diameter complete the setup and extend low‑frequency response without the need for a large bass‑reflex port. This configuration partly explains the specified 35 Hz low‑end limit, a remarkable figure for a speaker that is only 75 mm thick (excluding grille).
ATB (Aluminium Titanium Black) cones combine aluminum and titanium to achieve a favorable stiffness‑to‑mass ratio. The Wave surround, a hallmark of Canton designs, uses multiple folds to allow a longer cone excursion while maintaining linear behavior. The AB tweeter features a wave lens integrated into the baffle, designed to ensure even dispersion across the entire high‑frequency spectrum, up to 40 kHz.
Seamless, frameless integration and finish
The InWall 9’s fabric grille is intentionally larger than the chassis. Measuring 245 × 950 mm, it covers not only the drivers, but also the mounting clamps and the junction between the speaker and the wall. The result is a continuous fabric surface, held in place by magnets, that can be removed if you prefer to see the drivers. Canton states that this grille is acoustically neutral.
The mounting system uses integrated clamps that grip the wall cutout. There are therefore no visible screws or mounting frame once installation is complete. The speaker protrudes about 2 cm from the wall, which remains discreet even if the recess is not perfectly flush. The required wall opening is 195 × 900 mm, with a mounting depth of 75 mm.
Vertical or horizontal mounting
The InWall 9 can be installed vertically (the natural position for left/right or surround speakers) or horizontally. In the latter configuration, it can be used as a center channel if you don’t have the dedicated InWall 9 C model. The symmetry of the D’Appolito layout preserves a coherent soundstage regardless of the chosen orientation.
Canton offers the InWall 9 in two finishes: satin matte black and satin matte white. The fabric grilles are black, which blends best with the black version of the speaker, but remains discreet against a white wall since the grille is uniform and frameless.
Integration into a multichannel system
The InWall 9 is part of a complete range: the InWall 3 and 5 models offer more compact alternatives for surrounds or secondary rooms, the InWall 11 provides more power and low‑frequency extension, and the C (Center) versions adopt a horizontal format with two tweeters or a suitable layout. Canton recommends pairing these speakers with its Smart Amp 5.1 multichannel amplifier, but any properly specified AV amp is suitable.
For low frequencies, the InWall 9 goes down to 35 Hz, which limits the need for a subwoofer in a stereo music setup. In home theater use, adding a subwoofer remains relevant for LFE effects and demanding content.

Frequently Asked Questions
What wall thickness is required to install the InWall 9?
The mounting depth is 75 mm. A standard plasterboard partition (e.g. 13 mm boards on metal studs) is generally suitable, provided the structure allows the required clearance. For masonry walls, you will need to create a recess of sufficient depth.
Can the InWall 9 be painted to blend in with the wall?
The fabric grille cannot be painted without affecting its acoustic properties. However, since the black fabric is uniform and frameless, it blends into many interiors. If total concealment is the goal, some installers use custom grilles, but this lies outside the scope of Canton’s warranty.
What cable should be used for connection?
Canton recommends a cable with a minimum cross‑section of 2.5 mm² for standard cable runs (less than 10 m). The terminal accepts bare wire or banana plugs, and the cable is routed from the back, directly through the partition.
Can the InWall 9 be combined with Canton speakers from other series?
Technically, yes. Pairing it with models using the same generation of ATB and AB drivers (GLE S2 series, Vento, etc.) will provide more natural tonal consistency than with older series or different technologies.
What is the difference compared with the OnWall 9?
The OnWall 9 is designed for on‑wall surface mounting, with an integrated rear mounting system and a “Hidden Connection” system to conceal the cables. The InWall 9 is recessed into the wall and protrudes by only about 2 cm. The drivers are identical, but the external dimensions and mounting system differ.
