Overview

The PRO-10SW-RK belongs to Klipsch’s Professional Series Landscape range, designed to provide sound for gardens, patios, and entertainment spaces without visible cables or speakers. Beneath its fiberglass shell that imitates stone, it houses a 25 cm long-throw dual-voice-coil woofer, capable of reaching down to 33 Hz at ±10 dB. Available in Granite or Sandstone finish.

A fake rock, real acoustic volume

The rock shape is not just an aesthetic choice. It gives the enclosure generous internal volume, which is the main requirement for a subwoofer to reproduce deep low frequencies with strong sound output. A flat buried subwoofer or a compact model in a rectangular cabinet would have to compromise on one or the other; here, the natural roundness of the “rock” shape provides the necessary space without looking oversized in a flower bed or landscaped area.

The enclosure is molded from UV-treated fiberglass. This material withstands the elements, does not rust, and handles the temperature variations of year-round outdoor use. Klipsch chose to eliminate any external switch on the subwoofer: impedance selection is made at the wiring level, which removes a potential entry point for water. The integrated cable is a 4-conductor model designed for direct burial in the ground, without additional conduit. The whole unit is IP45 certified (protection against water spray and solid objects larger than 1 mm).

An IMG dual-voice-coil driver

The 25.4 cm woofer uses an IMG (Injection Molded Graphite) cone, a technology Klipsch uses across its entire range, from living-room hi-fi to in-wall speakers. The injection-molded graphite cone is both light and rigid, two qualities that limit cone deformation at high output and reduce distortion. The driver is designed with long excursion (“long throw”): the voice coil can move over an extended distance, allowing it to move more air and produce deeper bass at high volume.

Its 90 dB sensitivity and 200 W power handling place this subwoofer in a category capable of covering good-sized outdoor spaces. Outdoors, the absence of walls to reflect sound requires high efficiency: that is exactly the role of this relatively high sensitivity for a subwoofer.

The frequency response extends from 47 Hz to 103 Hz at ±3 dB. By widening the tolerance to ±10 dB, it reaches 33 Hz at the low end of the spectrum, covering most of the bass frequencies present in music and soundtracks.

Three connection modes, one subwoofer

This is one of the most interesting aspects of the PRO-10SW-RK: its dual voice coil gives it rare wiring versatility for an outdoor subwoofer.

In 70 V wiring (at 250 W), it operates on distributed lines used in commercial installations or large properties. The key point: Klipsch does not use a transformer for 70 V conversion. In a subwoofer, transformers act like a parasitic high-pass filter that cuts the lowest frequencies. By doing without one thanks to the dual voice coil, the PRO-10SW-RK retains its full low-frequency extension, even on a 70 V line. This is a real advantage over competing outdoor subwoofers that use a conventional transformer.

In low impedance, two configurations are possible: 8 ohms in stereo or 4 ohms in mono. The 8-ohm mode is suitable for small residential installations with a standard stereo amplifier. The 4-ohm mono mode maximizes the power delivered by a single amplifier channel.

This subwoofer is passive: it requires an external amplifier. This is a logical choice for an installation product, where the amplifier is generally centralized in a technical room, protected from the elements.

Integration into a Klipsch Landscape system

The PRO-10SW-RK is designed to work with the satellite speakers in Klipsch’s Professional Series Landscape range. The PRO-650T-RK (rock-shaped satellites) and PRO-650T-LS (stake-mounted satellites, garden-light style) share the same 8-ohm and 70 V compatibility. A typical system combines several satellites distributed throughout the garden with one or two subwoofers placed in strategic areas, directly on the ground, among plants or at the base of a low wall.

At 13.6 kg and with dimensions of 340 × 468 × 525 mm, the PRO-10SW-RK remains manageable by one person, even if its weight requires careful placement: once installed, it is not moved every day. Its size remains consistent with that of a large pebble or a natural garden stone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the PRO-10SW-RK an active or passive subwoofer?

It is a passive subwoofer. It does not contain a built-in amplifier and must be connected to an external amplifier. In an outdoor installation, the amplifier is generally placed in a technical room protected from the weather (garage, utility room, rack cabinet).

Can it be buried in the ground?

No, the PRO-10SW-RK is designed to be placed on the surface, partially concealed in vegetation. For a buried subwoofer, Klipsch offers models in the LS (Landscape Subwoofer) range, such as the PRO-12SW-LS, whose polyethylene enclosure is designed for full burial.

What exactly does the IP45 rating protect against?

The digit 4 indicates protection against solid objects larger than 1 mm (insects, small debris). The digit 5 corresponds to protection against water jets from a nozzle from all angles. The subwoofer withstands rain, automatic irrigation, and pool splashes, but it is not designed for prolonged immersion.
