The suede-like surface (synthetic suede) provides a soft, matte grip that feels pleasant in the hand while limiting micro-scratches caused by friction inside a bag. iFi Audio designed this case exclusively for the GR 2, with cutouts tailored to its controls and connectors, where a generic pouch would leave some play. The GR 2 is not a tiny USB dongle: its enclosure, around 14 cm long, warrants custom protection that stays in place during listening rather than serving merely as storage. The matte finish also hides fingerprints, a useful detail on an item handled several times a day.
Magnetic attachment that replaces straps
Portable DAC amplifiers are often carried strapped to the back of a phone with an elastic band or adhesive strip, a solution that is neither elegant nor always stable. The case takes another approach: a MagSafe-compatible magnetic array that clips onto the rear of a compatible smartphone. The connection holds while on the move and comes apart with a simple gesture, with no additional accessory required. The phone and GR 2 then form a compact unit that slips into a pocket. This attachment does, however, require a MagSafe-compatible phone: either a recent iPhone or an Android phone fitted with a suitable magnetic case or ring.
Direct access to the OLED touchscreen
The GR 2 introduced a 2.3-inch colour OLED touchscreen for adjusting volume, enabling XBass and XSpace modes, or navigating settings without going through a series of menus. The case preserves this functionality thanks to a precise front cutout that keeps the screen visible and responsive to touch without needing to remove it.
