Auris Audio Blues, belt-drive turntable

A Serbian specialist in tube amplifiers since 2013, Auris Audio entered the vinyl market through the tonearm before producing its own turntables. The Blues combines the brand’s in-house carbon-fiber T809 tonearm with a more accessible belt-drive system. Ceramic bearing, acrylic platter, handmade in Serbia: this turntable applies the brand’s electronic design principles to analog playback.

A synchronous motor with regulated speed

The belt drive keeps the motor away from the platter, limiting the transmission of its vibrations. The synchronous motor operates between 16 and 24 V AC, with electronic control integrated into the printed circuit board. This regulation maintains constant speed when mains voltage varies and reduces the motor’s own vibrations. Switching between 33.3 and 45 rpm is done manually. The stated speed tolerance is ±0.11% at both speeds. For even tighter regulation, the EON external power supply (sold separately) replaces the supplied unit and drives the motor at 33.3 or 45 rpm.

Acrylic platter and ceramic bearing

The 299 mm acrylic platter dampens its own resonances and is similar in material to the record it supports. Beneath the platter, the main bearing combines a bronze cylinder and a ceramic ball. This pairing of materials lasts longer than the brass usually used and reduces stress on the spindle. The sub-platter rests on precision ball bearings. Its 10 mm spindle is machined from cemented carbide, with a hardness reaching 90 on the Rockwell scale. This mass provides inertia, stabilizing rotation and keeping wow and flutter under control.

The Auris T809 carbon-fiber tonearm

The tonearm was the brand’s entry point into vinyl, and the T809 bears its signature. Its carbon-fiber tube combines rigidity and lightness, helping to absorb resonances and maintain clean playback without unwanted coloration. Its effective mass of 11.7 g places it in a medium range, compatible with a wide variety of common cartridges. The tonearm balances cartridges weighing from 6 to 14 g. Its geometry is set with an 18 mm overhang and a 24° offset angle. The removable headshell, equipped with a finger lift, accepts a standard-format cartridge to be selected within this weight range. Counterweight, anti-skating, and cueing lever are adjusted by hand; the arm rest incorporates a removable transport lock.

Leveling, isolation, and connection

The plinth rests on feet made from a specific rubber compound that filters vibrations and are height-adjustable. This adjustment ensures the turntable is perfectly level, a condition that matters for stylus tracking in the groove and for accurate anti-skating. Output is via RCA connectors fitted with a ground screw, useful against hum. A dedicated connector accepts the external power supply, while the mains power unit is included. Measuring 445 × 360 × 120 mm and weighing 4.6 kg, the turntable remains compact and lightweight; it requires a solid, stable support, especially as a belt-drive design on a lightweight plinth remains sensitive to vibrations transmitted by the furniture. Playback is entirely manual: the tonearm is lowered and raised by hand, with no end-of-record automation.
