Auris Audio Mystik white
Auris Audio Mystik, a belt-drive turntable crafted from Kerrock
Vinyl operates on microscopic scales, where a stray vibration is enough to blur the groove. Auris Audio, a Serbian manufacturer initially known for its tube amplifiers, tackles this issue through materials: a Kerrock plinth, a carbide sub-platter and a carbon tonearm of its own design. The result is a compact belt-drive turntable that seeks accurate playback without multiplying adjustments.
A Kerrock chassis to contain vibrations
Kerrock is a solid-surface composite material, a blend of mineral fillers and acrylic resin similar to that used for worktops. Dense and low-resonance, it dampens vibrations before they reach the groove. The plinth features clean lines and a compact format, 400 × 300 × 110 mm for 4.6 kg, making it easy to place on a conventional hi-fi cabinet. Three rubber feet and an anti-vibration compound isolate the entire unit from its support, while their height adjustment levels the plinth perfectly, a prerequisite for consistent playback.
A carbide sub-platter for stable speed
Beneath the 299 mm main platter, a sub-platter handles all the stability work. Its 10 mm spindle increases rotational inertia, smoothing out the micro-variations in speed responsible for wow and flutter. The platter of this sub-platter is machined from cemented metallic carbide with a hardness of 90 on the Rockwell scale, and it rests on precision ball bearings. This hard, well-guided mass maintains smooth, steady rotation without jerks.
The T809 carbon tonearm and its adjustments
The T809 is a carbon tube tonearm, designed by Auris and shared with its other turntables. Its effective mass of 11 g and internal damping are intended to dissipate resonances rather than send them back to the cartridge. Overhang is set at 18 mm and offset angle at 24°, two values that determine stylus alignment in the groove. Tracking force is adjustable from 5 to 40 mN, or around 0.5 to 4 g, a range covering the vast majority of moving-magnet cartridges. The tonearm accepts cartridges weighing from 6 to 11 g. Counterweight, anti-skating and cueing lever complete the setup, with a tonearm rest equipped with a transport safety lock.
Belt drive and regulated speed
The turntable is belt-driven by a DC motor powered at 9 to 12 V. This motor is mounted to the chassis with rubber spacers that filter its own vibrations before they travel into the plinth. Its regulation maintains a constant speed unaffected by fluctuations in the power supply voltage. Two speeds are available, 33.3 and 45 rpm, selected via a switch; measured variation remains at ± 0.012% for both, a very low deviation consistent with the desired rotational consistency.
A bronze bearing paired with a ceramic ball
The main hub’s central bearing is made of bronze, a choice intended to provide greater longevity than the brass usually used in this position. The bronze cylinder works with a ceramic ball, a hard, low-wear pairing that reduces stress on the bearing. On a turntable designed to run for thousands of hours, this guidance matters as much for service life as for rotational cleanliness.
Connecting the Mystik to your system
The turntable arrives ready to play: the cartridge is fitted and aligned, the connection cable is supplied, and the power supply is external. Output is via RCA, with a ground screw for connecting the ground wire and avoiding hum. The signal is at phono level, so it must be sent to a moving-magnet phono input on a compatible amplifier, or routed through a separate phono preamp. Once the turntable is placed on a stable support and levelled using the adjustable feet, setup takes only minutes.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Mystik include a phono preamp?
No. Its RCA output delivers a phono-level signal, which must be amplified and equalized before being sent to a line input. Two options: a moving magnet (MM) phono input on your amplifier or receiver, or an external phono preamp placed between the turntable and the amplifier. As the supplied cartridge is MM type, a standard MM input or unit is suitable.
Can 78 rpm records be played?
No. The switch only offers 33.3 and 45 rpm. 78 rpm records, which also require a specific diamond stylus, are beyond the scope of this turntable.
How do I maintain the belt?
The belt is a wear part. Keep it clean, away from dust and fingerprints, and check its tension from time to time: a loose belt causes the speed to drift. Plan to replace it after a few years of regular use. To refit it, place it around the sub-platter and motor pulley, with the platter removed.
Is the Mystik suitable for active speakers?
Yes, provided there is a phono stage somewhere in the chain. Active speakers generally have line-level inputs: you therefore need to insert a moving-magnet phono preamp between the turntable and their inputs. Without this stage, the sound would remain weak and unbalanced due to the lack of RIAA equalization.
