Overview
Building a cohesive home theater system often runs into the same obstacle: finding speakers that speak the same language from one channel to another. Triangle addresses this by bringing together three models from its Solstice range, developed together and fitted with the same drivers. Floorstanding speakers handle the front, the center speaker carries voices, and bookshelf speakers cover the rear. When a sound moves across the room, its timbre does not change color along the way.
Three speakers, one voice
Tonal consistency is the true purpose of a package built around a single range. A car speeding from left to right, rain moving around the sofa, a voice shifting from the center speaker to the floorstanders: if each speaker colors the sound in its own way, the ear notices the transitions. The Solstice trio avoids this issue by sharing the same tweeter and the same 16 cm cellulose-pulp cone drivers, with acoustic engineering common to all three models.
The Solstice range succeeds Triangle’s Esprit series. Based in Soissons, in the Aisne region of France, the manufacturer has designed, developed and assembled its speakers there since 1980. The Solstice 8, Solstice 3 and C3 form a family designed equally for stereo music listening and home cinema.
A new horn-loaded tweeter
The tweeter is the driver responsible for high frequencies. The Solstice range model, called TZ2540MG, uses a 25 mm aluminum-magnesium alloy dome, a material that is both lightweight and rigid and was already used in the brand’s Esprit 40TH and Magellan 40TH series. It sits in a horn, a kind of guide that directs high-frequency dispersion into the room.
Two innovations distinguish this tweeter. A phase plug with a so-called “barrel” structure, positioned in front of the dome, evens out the way high frequencies propagate. And a redesigned waveguide broadens the listening area. Behind the dome, a neodymium magnet motor and a damped rear chamber reduce distortion. This same tweeter is fitted to all three speakers in the package: it ensures timbral continuity from one channel to another.
The Solstice 8 floorstander at the front
The Solstice 8 handles the front left and right channels, which carry the film’s music and most of its effects. It is a three-way floorstanding speaker, meaning that the work is divided among three driver families: the tweeter for high frequencies, a 16 cm midrange driver for voices and instruments, and two 16 cm concave-cone woofers for the low end. The midrange driver uses a new die-cast aluminum basket (the frame that holds the driver), whose arch-shaped form is designed for neutrality.
Bass extends down to 38 Hz, already generous extension for a floorstander of this size. The air displaced by the drivers exits through a bass-reflex port concealed in the base, a tuned duct that reinforces low frequencies. Since it opens downward rather than at the rear, the speaker is easier to position near a wall. With 91 dB sensitivity, the Solstice 8 delivers strong sound levels without demanding oversized amplification, and is ideally suited to rooms from 15 to 50 m². Dual binding posts allow bi-wiring and bi-amping, two upgrade options detailed below.
The C3 center speaker and dialogue
In cinema, the center speaker reproduces most of the dialogue. The C3 is a two-way speaker whose tweeter is flanked by two 16 cm midwoofer drivers, an arrangement that naturally places it horizontally beneath or in front of the screen. It operates in a sealed enclosure: its cabinet is airtight, with no port. This choice provides bass that is slightly less extended than that of a ported speaker, but more controlled, and makes installation in furniture more forgiving.
Its 92 dB sensitivity, the highest of the trio, helps voices stand out clearly from the rest of the soundtrack. It covers 50 Hz to 22 kHz and handles 120 W. Since it uses the Solstice 8 tweeter, dialogue retains the same sonic signature as the music and effects reproduced by the floorstanders, with no break when a character speaks during a busy scene.
The Solstice 3 bookshelf speaker at the rear
In this package, the Solstice 3 speakers handle the rear channels, placing the viewer in the middle of the action. They are compact two-way speakers, with the range’s tweeter and a 16 cm cellulose midwoofer driver. They extend down to 48 Hz, offer 90 dB sensitivity and suit rooms from 10 to 35 m². Their base is designed to fit precisely onto the dedicated Triangle S05 stand.
Their versatility goes beyond the surround role. With voices and acoustic instruments, the Solstice 3 performs very well as a stereo pair, making it an equally sound basis for music listening in a smaller room or for a system intended to grow.
Cabinets, bases and finishes
All three speakers share the same attention to cabinetmaking. The cabinet is made of low-resonance high-density paneling, with rounded edges that reduce diffraction, the phenomenon in which sound bounces off cabinet corners and blurs the precision of the soundstage. Inside, a reinforcement called DVAS (Driver Vibration Absorption System) absorbs driver vibrations to prevent them from reaching the cabinet walls.
Under the floorstanders, a dual-material base combines cast iron and silicone: it isolates the speaker from the floor (decoupling) while stabilizing it. At the rear, exclusive binding posts accept the cables, with a silicone trim echoing the pattern surrounding the drivers, for visual consistency across the entire product. Four finishes are available—Ash Black, Teak, White and Birch—each matched with a magnetic grille and offered for the S05 stands, allowing every element of the system to be coordinated.
Amplification and possible upgrades
The Solstice speakers’ high sensitivity (90 to 92 dB) means they do not require colossal power to play loudly. However, their impedance drops fairly low in real-world use, down to 3.6 ohms on the Solstice 8. It is therefore best to use an amplifier or home theater receiver comfortable with low-impedance loads and capable of delivering current without weakening. For a five-channel system like this one, an audio-video receiver drives all channels from a single unit.
The Solstice 8’s dual binding posts allow two advanced configurations. Bi-wiring consists of connecting the bass and treble sections with separate cables; bi-amping goes further by assigning them separate amplification channels. These connections remain optional, and the package works perfectly with standard single wiring.
As it stands, the trio forms the horizontal foundation of a setup: floorstanders at the front, center speaker in the middle and bookshelf speakers at the rear. A subwoofer completes this foundation to reproduce the low-frequency effects track of films, whose deepest frequencies extend beyond what passive speakers can reach. And if Dolby Atmos appeals to you, simply add height speakers for the vertical dimension. The Solstice package is therefore a starting point that can be expanded in stages.

Frequently Asked Questions
What home theater configuration can be set up with this package?
The three models cover the horizontal plane of a five-channel setup: a pair of Solstice 8 speakers at the front, the C3 in the center, and a pair of Solstice 3 speakers at the rear. This is a 5.0 base, to which a subwoofer is added for 5.1, followed by height speakers for a 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos system.
Is a subwoofer mandatory?
For stereo music, the Solstice 8 reaches down to 38 Hz and is often sufficient on its own. For movies, however, a subwoofer is still highly recommended: films feature a dedicated bass effects track (the LFE channel) that explores very low frequencies beyond the range of passive speakers. The subwoofer is what gives explosions and rumbles their weight.
Is the package compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X?
The channels provided by this package handle sound that moves around you at ear level. Formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X add sounds coming from above, which requires additional height speakers (ceiling-mounted or upward-firing), not included in the package. The Solstice base supports this without difficulty once these speakers are added.
Can Solstice 3 speakers be used to listen to music in stereo?
Yes. A pair of Solstice 3 speakers works as a fully fledged stereo system, particularly well suited to vocals and acoustic instruments. Combined with the S05 stand designed for them, they are suitable for rooms from 10 to 35 m².
How should the C3 unit be positioned relative to the screen?
Its low, wide shape fits in front of or beneath the television, or inside a furniture recess. Its sealed enclosure handles close proximity to a wall well. Ideally, it should be placed at ear height from the listening position and aimed toward viewers, for dialogue that seems to come from the screen.
Which amplifier should I choose for this package?
An AV receiver with the desired number of channels. The speakers’ sensitivity limits power requirements, but their low impedance calls for a robust model that is comfortable with low loads. As the Solstice 8 feature dual binding posts, an amplifier supporting bi-amplification leaves room for future upgrades.
Are the finishes identical from one model to another?
Yes, the four finishes (Ash Black, Teak, White, Birch) are available for all three speakers, the magnetic grilles, and the S05 stands. The entire system—floorstanding speakers, center speaker, bookshelf speakers, and stands—can therefore be matched in the same finish.
