Audio Pro A15 W, the battery-powered multiroom speaker
Take your music out to the patio without leaving your home multiroom system behind: this mid-sized Swedish speaker keeps Wi-Fi, AirPlay and Google Cast running when unplugged, and its battery lasts up to nineteen hours. The W generation comes with the new Audio Pro app. It retains a two-way design in which each driver has its own amplifier.
A home speaker that can go out on the patio
The A15 W measures 28.6 cm wide by 20.6 cm high and weighs 3.4 kg. It can be moved from room to room or out to the garden table, but it remains a home speaker rather than one you would slip into a bag. Its top panel brings together touch controls for everyday use: power, source selection, Bluetooth pairing, play and pause, next or previous track, volume and a charge indicator. Preset buttons bring up a web radio station or playlist saved through the app with a single press. That is handy when several people use the speaker without having the app on their phones.
The IPX2 rating has two parts. The “X” means that dust protection has not been assessed. The “2” guarantees resistance to water drops falling on the device when it is tilted up to 15°. A light shower on the patio is therefore no problem, but a spray from a garden hose or heavy rain is. The speaker comes in three finishes: black, dark grey and light grey.
Two drivers, two amplifiers
The sound comes from a two-way system. A 2.5 cm soft-dome tweeter reproduces the highs, while an 11 cm treated-paper mid-bass driver handles the rest of the spectrum. Each has its own Class D digital amplifier: 10 W for the tweeter and 30 W for the mid-bass driver. The crossover is set at 2,800 Hz, high enough to leave most vocals to the 11 cm driver, with no crossover in the middle of the vocal range.
The rear-facing bass-reflex port extends the low-frequency response. It runs from 56 Hz to 22 kHz at ±6 dB and reaches down to 53 Hz when the speaker is placed in a room, where the walls reinforce the lower end of the spectrum. Outdoors, with no walls to support the bass, the sound is naturally lighter. Indoors, leaving a little space behind the cabinet prevents a wall too close to the port from making the bass sound thick.
With just one driver for each frequency range, the A15 W plays in mono: the left and right channels are mixed before playback. For background listening or outdoor use, where people move around the speaker, this is barely noticeable. For a stereo soundstage when listening from a sofa, the brand’s stereo models are better suited. The Audio Pro app offers an equaliser to adjust the tonal balance, and a subwoofer output lets you connect a powered subwoofer when the speaker stays in one room.
Wi-Fi as the main source
The A15 W connects to your home’s dual-band 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, with no Ethernet port. From an iPhone, iPad or Mac, AirPlay sends it audio from any app. From an Android device, Google Cast does the same with compatible apps. Spotify Connect and TIDAL Connect let the service’s app control the speaker directly, leaving the phone to act only as a remote. The Audio Pro app provides access to Qobuz, Deezer, Amazon Music, TuneIn, Radio Paradise and around fifteen other services. It also plays music stored on your phone or shared over the local network, in MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC or Apple Lossless, with wireless streaming up to 24-bit / 96 kHz.
Multiple speakers can play together through three systems: groups in the Audio Pro app, AirPlay (versions 1 and 2) and Google Home. In an Audio Pro group, the main speaker also rebroadcasts the signal from its analogue input. A source plugged into the A15 W’s mini-jack can therefore be heard in every equipped room. Out of Wi-Fi range, Bluetooth 4.2 takes over, using only the SBC codec. It is enough to play a podcast or playlist from your phone, but offers neither the quality of Wi-Fi streaming nor multiroom features.
Nineteen hours away from an outlet
The built-in 37 Wh battery provides up to nineteen hours of listening, though that time decreases as the volume rises. It recharges using the supplied mains cable, which plugs directly into the back without an external power adapter. A full charge takes five to six hours, and the speaker works equally well plugged in or on battery power. After no more than about twenty minutes without a signal, it goes into standby on its own, preserving the charge if you forget to turn it off at the far end of the garden. The battery can be replaced with a genuine Audio Pro part, so there is no need to replace the whole speaker when the battery wears out.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference compared with the A10 MkII W?
The A10 MkII W is a more compact speaker that runs on mains power only. The A15 W adds a battery and IPX2 protection: it’s the model to choose for listening indoors or outdoors, with the same streaming services and multiroom capability.
Can the A15 W be left outside all season?
No. The IPX2 rating covers drips and light rain during a listening session, not permanent exposure to the elements. The operating temperature range is 5 to 40 °C, so it’s best to bring it indoors at night and in cold weather, and not leave it in direct sunlight when it’s very hot.
Can I connect a turntable to it?
Yes, via the 3.5 mm mini-jack input, provided you use a phono preamp. This input expects a line-level signal, which is much stronger than the signal from a cartridge. A turntable with a built-in preamp connects directly using an RCA-to-mini-jack cable. Once the A15 W is set as the main speaker in an Audio Pro group, the turntable can be heard in the other rooms with speakers.
Can I connect a TV?
Only via an analog connection, using the TV’s headphone output or audio output connected to the mini-jack. The A15 W has neither an optical input nor HDMI ARC, and it plays in mono. It can make dialogue clearer on a small TV, but is much less suitable as a replacement for a soundbar.
How do I add a subwoofer?
The subwoofer output connects to the input of a powered subwoofer, which then handles the low frequencies that the 11 cm driver cannot reproduce. Because the subwoofer needs a power outlet and a cable, this setup suits a speaker that stays in one place, not one you take out into the garden.
Can it charge a smartphone?
No, the A15 W does not have a USB charging port. The phone still needs to be plugged into its own charger.
How long is the battery warranty?
The battery is covered by a one-year warranty. After that, it can be replaced with a genuine Audio Pro battery, the only one compatible with the speaker.
