Overview

65 inches is often the most sensible screen size for a living room: large enough to give films a sense of scale, yet still easy to accommodate on a cabinet or wall. Panasonic offers the top of its 2026 LCD range in this size, with Mini LED backlighting divided into more than a thousand zones, a quantum dot panel, an anti-reflective coating and a 144 Hz refresh rate for consoles and PCs, all running on Google TV with integrated 4.1 sound.

More than a thousand backlighting zones behind the panel

On an LCD television, light comes from diodes positioned behind the panel, and liquid crystals filter it pixel by pixel to form the image. Mini LED technology miniaturises these diodes, multiplies them into the thousands and groups them into zones that individually brighten, dim or switch off according to what they need to display. Panasonic calls this control system Dynamic Local Dimming Ultra and specifies more than 1,000 zones on this 65-inch model: a headlight on a night-time street or a moon in a black sky retains its full brilliance without turning the surrounding scene grey.

The display is still a backlit panel. Relative to the 8.3 million pixels of 4K resolution (3840 × 2160), each zone still covers several thousand pixels, and a white subtitle on a black background may reveal a slight halo that the video processing keeps in check by balancing brightness against black depth. The benefit is apparent in the highlights: peak brightness reaches around 1,500 cd/m² (the “nits” found on specification sheets), providing headroom that adds depth to reflections of sunlight, flames and illuminated signs in HDR content.

Colours pass through a layer of quantum dots, nanocrystals that convert the blue light from the diodes into purer red and green. Panasonic brings this technology together under the name Wide Colour Spectrum and specifies 105% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space, the benchmark for digital cinema.

A picture that stands up to daylight

The Glare Free Ultra coating reduces reflections from windows and lamps and prevents the mirror effect, so blacks retain their depth and colours their richness in a bright room. An ambient light sensor adjusts the picture to the room’s lighting throughout the day, from mid-afternoon to an evening viewing session.

The AI 4K Colour Engine Ultra processor analyses each scene to balance contrast and colours, and upscales lower-resolution sources to 4K, from HD terrestrial channels to older videos. For films, Filmmaker mode disables motion interpolation and sharpening processing, reproducing the colours and frame rate intended during filming. The television supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, two dynamic metadata formats that adjust the picture scene by scene, as well as HLG used by television broadcasters: streaming apps and 4K Blu-rays are each displayed in their original format.

Gaming at up to 144 frames per second

The three HDMI 2.1 inputs, protected by HDCP 2.3, accept high-frame-rate 4K and variable refresh rate (VRR) up to 144 Hz. With VRR, the screen follows the frame rate actually produced by the console or graphics card rather than imposing its own, eliminating horizontal tearing and stuttering when the game slows down in a demanding scene.

Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) switches the television to Game Mode Extreme as soon as a console requests it, and the game control panel (Game Control Board) brings together information about the incoming signal and gaming settings in a single panel. Current consoles top out at 120 Hz: the extra headroom up to 144 Hz is mainly useful for gaming PCs. AMD FreeSync Premium certification covers AMD graphics cards, while the television does not carry NVIDIA’s G-Sync Compatible certification. eARC occupies one of the three HDMI ports: with a soundbar or amplifier connected, two inputs remain available for sources.

4.1 sound housed in an 88 mm-thick body

The 80 W audio system combines front- and side-facing speakers with a 20 W subwoofer. It decodes Dolby Atmos from streaming platforms, while Theater Surround 360 processing extends the soundstage beyond the edges of the screen. Seven audio modes, including Cinema, Music and News, adapt the tonal balance to the programme being watched.

A chassis less than 9 cm deep does, however, limit bass extension, whether or not a subwoofer is built in. For a true home cinema system, the HDMI eARC port sends Dolby Atmos and uncompressed multichannel formats to an amplifier or soundbar, and the optical output remains available for older equipment. Bluetooth Audio Link sends sound to wireless headphones, with a slight delay possible depending on the model, and a wired headphone socket completes the setup.

Google TV, voice control and traditional channels

Google TV brings streaming apps and recommendations together on a single home screen. Google Assistant works hands-free, without having to pick up the remote control, which also has a voice button. The television is Alexa-compatible for households already equipped with Amazon speakers. Built-in Chromecast and screen mirroring send videos and photos from a smartphone, the media player accesses files on a home network server, and a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse makes input easier in apps. When nothing is playing, Art Time mode displays paintings or photos like a picture frame.

Traditional television retains its place with terrestrial (DVB-T/T2), satellite (DVB-S2) and cable (DVB-C) tuners, the programme guide and HbbTV for broadcasters’ interactive services. A CI+ 1.4 slot accommodates a subscription module. A hard drive or USB stick with at least 160 GB is enough to record programmes received via aerial, satellite or cable and pause live TV. The voice guide reads menus aloud for visually impaired people.

Placing or wall-mounting a 164 cm screen

The television measures 1453 mm wide by 845 mm high and weighs 24.2 kg without its stand. The central U-shaped stand, made of black metal, can sit on a cabinet narrower than the screen, provided it is at least 30 cm deep. On this stand, the bottom of the picture sits only around 44 mm above the cabinet: a soundbar placed in front may overlap the screen, and mounting it on the wall or placing it on a lower shelf avoids the problem. For wall mounting, the bracket follows the VESA 400 × 200 mm standard. The box, 1.60 m long and weighing 30.4 kg, requires two people to handle.

Power consumption depends heavily on the content: 102 kWh per 1000 hours in SDR (class F) and 200 kWh in HDR (class G), as the backlight drives its diodes harder to reach peak brightness. Standby consumption is limited to 0.5 W.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between the W95C and the W97C?

Only the color. The W95C is black, the W97C is silver; the panel, backlight, processor, audio, and connectivity are identical.

What distinguishes this model from the 2025 W95B?

The W95B ran Fire TV with the HCX Pro AI MK II processor. The W95C switches to Google TV, with built-in Google Assistant and Chromecast, and to the AI 4K Colour Engine Ultra processor. It adopts the Glare Free Ultra coating and a 4.1 audio system with side-firing speakers. Two W95B features are dropped: Dolby Vision IQ, which adapted Dolby Vision content to the room’s lighting, and Calman compatibility. The W95C plays standard Dolby Vision and adjusts its brightness using its own sensor.

Does the TV support professional calibration?

No. The W95C offers neither ISF mode nor Calman compatibility, which Panasonic reserves for the Z95B and Z90B OLED models in its 2026 lineup. For accurate picture reproduction, use Filmmaker Mode, Cinema mode, or the manual settings in the picture menu.

Can I stream from an iPhone or a Mac?

The TV does not support AirPlay. From an Apple device, you can cast using apps with a Cast button (YouTube, Netflix, Google Photos, and many others), which use the built-in Chromecast.

What viewing distance should I allow for a 65-inch TV?

The image is approximately 1.43 m wide. For it to fill a viewing angle of 30 to 40 degrees, the range recommended by cinema standards, you should sit about 2 to 2.7 metres away. 4K resolution lets you sit closer without seeing the pixels.

Do the other screen sizes in the series have the same features?

The W95C series is available in 55, 65, 75 and 86 inches. All four screen sizes share the 144 Hz QD-Mini LED panel, AI 4K Colour Engine Ultra processor, 80 W 4.1 audio system, HDMI 2.1 connectivity and Google TV. They differ in dimensions, weight, wall-mounting requirements and power consumption.

Which HDMI cable should I use for gaming at 4K and 144 Hz?

An Ultra High Speed HDMI-certified cable designed for HDMI 2.1’s 48 Gbps bandwidth. An older High Speed cable may cause picture dropouts or limit the refresh rate when high-refresh-rate 4K and HDR are used together.
