The IPX5 rating, defined by the international IEC 60529 standard, certifies resistance to water jets projected from all directions through a 6.3 mm nozzle, at a flow rate of approximately 12.5 liters per minute for at least three minutes. This waterproofing covers a shower from a tap, a quick rinse, or a sustained downpour, without allowing prolonged immersion.

Portable speakers, bathroom speakers, running earphones, and outdoor bars frequently use this protection rating. IPX5 certification guarantees water resistance against splashes and spray, but the “X” indicates that no dust testing was conducted according to the standard.
