Meze Audio’s Premium Copper PCUHD cables replace the brand’s original headphone cables with a conductor rarely used in headphone cabling: PCUHD (Pure Copper Ultra High Drawability) copper from Japanese manufacturer Furukawa. This 99.99% pure copper is produced without gas burners, in equipment filled with noble gases, keeping oxygen levels below 5 ppm. PCUHD can be drawn into very fine wires: each cable brings together 140 strands measuring 0.04 mm, hand-braided in Baia Mare, Romania, into a continuous eight-wire braid that transitions to four.

The twisted construction limits the magnetic field created by each wire, reducing both emitted noise and picked-up interference. The cable remains flexible and stands up well to repeated handling. It is protected by a TPE jacket made in the United States, and its Jensen solder contains 4% silver.

At the headphone end, two connector options are available. The version with a 3.5 mm mono connector on each earcup is compatible with the 2nd-generation 99 Classics, 105 AER, 105 Silva, 109 Pro, Strada, Liric and Poet. The 4-pin mini-XLR version is compatible with the Empyrean, Empyrean II and Elite. At the source end, you can choose between a 3.5 or 6.35 mm jack for a standard output, and a 2.5 or 4.4 mm jack or a 4-pin XLR for an amplifier with a balanced output. The 2.5, 3.5 and 4.4 mm versions measure 1.3 m, a length suited to a portable player or desktop DAC. The 6.35 mm and XLR versions measure 2.5 m, for listening at a distance from a home amplifier.
