The Audio Technica VM750SH is a dual moving magnet phono cartridge renowned for its exceptional sound quality. It is equipped with a Shibata stylus, designed to capture detailed information contained in every part of a record’s groove, resulting in stunning accuracy and detail.
The cartridge’s dual magnet design provides excellent stereo separation, creating a wide soundstage with lots of detail. This design also ensures that no frequency is overly emphasized, resulting in a well-balanced sound. Users have praised the VM750SH for its amazing stereo separation and high-end detail, describing the sound as extremely pristine.
The VM750SH is also known for its ability to provide a greater sense of “depth/dimension” to the soundstage without attenuating the midrange, unlike other cartridges. The result is a solidly accurate and perfectly “full” sound.
The VM750SH isn’t just about sound; it also benefits from a robust design. The cartridge’s Shibata stylus offers a larger contact area with the record groove than an elliptical stylus, allowing it to capture ultra-high frequencies with less groove stress and distortion.
The cartridge body is equipped with two magnets, positioned to match the left and right channels in the stereo recording groove for exceptional channel separation and extended frequency response. The Shibata stylus is mounted on an aluminum cantilever and secured to the cartridge body, further enhancing sound quality.
The VM750SH also features a die-cast aluminum alloy housing that reduces vibration and adds a natural electrical shield. This design feature not only improves the cartridge’s durability but also contributes to its superior sound quality.
The VM750SH is compatible with a wide range of turntables, making it a versatile choice for vinyl enthusiasts. It is designed to work with standard half-inch mount turntables, ensuring easy installation and optimal performance.
The VM750SH is built to last. The Shibata stylus is known for its durability and, while it may need to be replaced after a certain period of use, it is designed to provide many hours of high-quality audio playback. The cartridge’s robust die-cast aluminum alloy housing also contributes to its longevity, reducing vibrations and providing a natural electrical shield.

Given its shibata profile, I was worried the sound would be too analytical.
Yes, the highs extend very high, but it remains very musical, the violins are sublime and they bring a great richness to the harmonics.
They don't encroach on the mids which are smooth, very clean and composed.
My surprise comes from the bass, it is immersive, deep, distinct and fully identifiable.
The ATVM50SH has a remarkable tonal balance, musicality and dynamism that highlights all the qualities of vinyl as a whole (while being well aware that there are much higher performing cartridges out there! It's the stuff of dreams...).
I haven't even mentioned the channel separation, it's so obvious that it "jumps out at you".
An excellent quality/price ratio!
