Heir to the Quadlink, the American brand’s best-seller for nearly thirty years, the Parsec is the first Cardas cable outside the flagship Clear range to incorporate Matched Propagation conductors. This technology, patented by George Cardas in 2010, was previously reserved for the most expensive models in the catalogue. The Parsec offers a specific implementation of it, combined with the brand’s historic sonic signature: warmth, musicality, and clear timbral definition.

Conductors designed to synchronize signal and dielectric

The issue with traditional audio cables lies in a mismatch of speed: the electrical signal travels through the conductor at the speed of light, but the charge accumulated in the dielectric (the insulator) propagates more slowly, at around 78% of that speed. This mismatch causes a slight temporal smearing that blurs the signal’s micro‑information.

George Cardas’ solution is to slow down propagation in the conductor so it aligns with that of the dielectric. How? By controlling the progression of the twist pitch of successive strands in a concentric conductor made of individually insulated strands. The result is a conductor whose propagation speed matches that of the insulator, eliminating the timing mismatch that affects conventional cables.

Golden‑ratio construction

The Parsec’s conductors use Grade 1 copper with 99.9999% purity, oxygen-free, with an SPN coating (Litz technology). The strands are arranged according to the 1.618:1 ratio, the famous golden ratio found in everything from Egyptian pyramids to seashells. This layout places the thinnest strands at the center, with increasing size toward the outside.

The benefit of this geometry? Each strand is coupled with another whose resonance frequency is irrational relative to its own. Internal resonances cancel each other out instead of adding up. Cardas refers to this effect as a “quiet conductor.”

The Parsec RCA consists of a twisted, shielded pair of 23.5 AWG conductors with a Kevlar core. Poly‑e air tubes are tied together with a carbon‑impregnated FEP tape. The outer layer uses compressed air tubes to keep the tinned‑copper braided shield at a distance from the conductors. The outer Alcryn (TPR) rubber sheath gives the cable greater flexibility than its predecessor.

GRMO connectors: brass, rhodium, and tension spring

Cardas GRMO RCA plugs are machined from eutectic brass, a non‑magnetic alloy. The contact surface is first plated with silver, then given a rhodium flash for durability. The outer shell is gold‑plated. An internal spring system maintains constant tension on the center pin, ensuring a stable connection over time.

The cable’s outer diameter is 9.4 mm (0.370 inch), a compact enough format to be installed easily behind most components, even in setups where space is tight.

Sound character and use cases

Cardas describes the Parsec as neutral with a touch of warmth. The midrange retains the brand’s characteristic roundness, while the bass becomes faster and the treble more extended compared with the Quadlink. Stereo imaging and dynamics also improve.

The Parsec is suited to mid‑ to upper‑level systems. It can serve as a first step into the high‑end Cardas range or complement a system already made up of quality components, where its slightly warm character will balance analytical electronics or speakers.
