The DX1 is much more than an exceptional DAC capable of handling PCM signals up to 768 kHz and DSD 2.8, 5.6 and 11.2. Thanks to its settings, it becomes a high-performance preamplifier/DAC and headphone amplifier. The Smart DX1 handles PCM signals up to 768 kHz and DSD 2.8, 5.6 and 11.2.
The DX1 is one of the components in the Smart series, available in stunning white or black finishes, thanks to the methacrylate front panel and highly refined ergonomics. A power on/standby button and a rotary encoder are all you need to control everything! The first control, surrounded by a red ring when in standby, turns white when the DAC is operational. The rotary encoder is encircled by a white LED. This single control selects the numerous digital inputs: six S/PDIF optical and three coaxial, including one BNC, one AES on XLR, two USB (one type A for connecting Apple devices like iPhone, iPod, iPad or other “Made for iPod” devices, and one type B for computer connection), and even Bluetooth APTX via our optional high-performance, plug-in “pure digital” X-FTB01 adapter.
The menu allows you to use the DX1 purely as a DAC with a fixed direct output level or to activate the variable volume and then use the DX1 as a Preamplifier/DAC. This rotary encoder provides access to volume control for the stereo line outputs (on RCA and balanced XLR connectors), as well as for adjusting the two headphone outputs on 3.5 mm jack connectors. The DX1 complies with current energy-saving standards but also offers the option to disengage the APD (Automatic Power Down) function, which by default puts the DAC into standby after about thirty minutes without incoming modulation. Each action on the parameters is displayed on the screen. You can’t get better ergonomics than this!
PCM signals are processed up to 768 kHz at 32 bits, and the DX1 also accepts DSD, from DSD64 (2.8 MHz) to DSD256 (11.2 MHz)!
The internal architecture uses the latest generation components for power supply regulation and the famous AKM 4490 for conversion. As a premium converter, this DAC integrates the Velvet Sound concept. The Velvet Sound concept optimizes sound quality based on purely technical measurements combined with listening tests. Synchronization is performed by a very modern and precise circuit instead of a quartz crystal, which is now obsolete.
The result meets the expectations of the demanding audiophile, with well-structured and controlled bass, midrange that provides high-level presence and clarity to voices, and finally, precise and balanced highs that command admiration. Dynamics, transparency, and spatialization are also present.
