A distillation of the LCD range in a more accessible format

The LCD-MX4 borrows its Double Fluxor magnetic structure from the LCD-4, the most sophisticated model in Audeze’s lineup, while retaining the low-impedance driver of the LCD-X. This hybrid architecture generates a flux density of 1.5 Tesla at the diaphragm, a value rarely reached in the headphone world. The result is a high sensitivity of 105 dB/1mW that allows use without a dedicated amplifier.

The neodymium magnets, arranged in a double array on either side of the ultra-thin diaphragm, enable precise control of membrane movement. Audeze’s proprietary Uniforce technology ensures an even distribution of force over the entire surface of the driver, reducing harmonic distortion to negligible levels. Fazor elements complete the system by guiding sound waves through the magnetic structure to preserve the signal’s temporal integrity.

Lightweight construction and extended listening sessions

The choice of magnesium for the earcups and carbon fiber for the suspension headband addresses a recurring request from planar headphone users: reduce weight without compromising rigidity. At 570 grams, the LCD-MX4 is still substantial, but the weight distribution and adjustable headband provide comfortable wear over several hours. The lambskin earpads incorporate memory foam and feature an asymmetrical bevel, thicker at the back than at the front, which naturally angles the drivers toward the ear canal.

The metal yokes allow lateral rotation and tilt of the earcups to accommodate different head shapes. The 4-pin mini-XLR connection system, positioned at the front of each cup, offers secure locking while making cable replacement easy.

A sound signature designed for precision work

The frequency response extends from 5 Hz to 20 kHz according to the official specifications, with usable extension beyond that at both ends of the spectrum. The bass, controlled and articulate, offers particularly useful clarity for assessing the low end of a mix without the typical exaggeration of many closed-back headphones. The midrange stands out for its transparency and its ability to reveal instrumental and vocal textures, while the treble retains sufficient articulation without causing listening fatigue.

The open-back design promotes an expansive soundstage with clear separation of layers. A headphone output on an audio interface, mixing console, or even a laptop can be enough to reach comfortable listening levels. This accessibility does not negate the benefits of high-quality amplification, but it greatly broadens the use cases: location recording, mobile mixing, home listening without a dedicated setup.

The supplied cable, braided OCC copper, is 1.9 meters long and terminates in a 4-pin XLR plug. The included adapter allows connection to a 6.35 mm jack. For sources with a 3.5 mm output, an additional adapter will be required.
