The suspension that connects the dome to its support uses a memory foam material, Poron. This suspension is directly derived from the famous Utopia Beryllium tweeter and reduces distortion by three times between 2000 Hz and 3000 Hz, a highly sensitive area for the ear. The spatialization and very low directivity of the inverted dome allow for silky highs, regardless of the listening position in the room.
The exclusive Focal Slatefiber technology involves using non-woven recycled carbon fibers, applied in a sandwich between two layers of thermoplastic polymer. In their quest for perfection, Focal engineers chose to use non-woven carbon fibers all oriented in the same direction to achieve even more rigidity and better damping. Manufactured in France using ultra-modern industrial tools, this “slate” effect cone provides more damping and rigidity, as well as lightness, the three “essentials” of a good speaker.
