Coreless Direct Drive Motor

Conventional analog turntables have issues with audio quality degradation caused by factors like low-speed vibrations during rotation and irregular rotation or “cogging”. The latter is eliminated in the SL-1200G by using a new coreless direct drive motor. Additionally, the double rotor reduces bearing load while maintaining high torque and reducing low vibrations during rotation. These factors allow for reproducing the warm and incredibly detailed sounds etched in analog recordings.

High-Precision Motor Control Technology

With motor control technology developed for Blu-ray devices and activating the drive mode based on the motor’s operating status, you get high starting torque and high-speed stability.

Three-Layer Turntable Platter

The turntable platter consists of three layers of die-cast brass and aluminum alloy. Covered with a sound-insulating rubber mat, the entire rear surface suppresses unwanted resonance to provide excellent rigidity while damping vibrations. This results in superb rotational stability and greater inertial mass than the SP-10MK2, the direct drive turntable standard used in radio stations worldwide. It also has twice the inertial mass of the SL-1200MK5.

High-Sensitivity Tonearm

The tonearm is made of ultra-lightweight magnesium offering excellent damping. Cold drawing improves the material characteristics and achieves the extreme precision required. Moreover, high sensitivity of initial motion is attained through Technics’ traditional gimbal suspension construction method characterized by the intersection of the horizontal rotation axis and vertical rotation axis at a single central point, as well as high-precision bearings thanks to a cut housing.
