When the RMC-1 was designed, Emotiva engineers had relatively high goals. Design a processor that supports the latest Dolby Atmos and DTS:X object-oriented surround sound formats, with many channels to meet the needs of the most demanding customers, combined with sound quality and performance superior to the best stereo equipment. In addition, it offers perfect picture quality and is compatible with the latest 4k UHD HDR and Dolby Vision video content. Finally, its setup and operation had to be relatively simple, so that everyone could take full advantage of its advanced performance and capabilities.
Designing a surround sound processor that includes all the features you need in a modern home theater system while delivering exceptional sound quality was a formidable challenge. Most AV receivers and processors offer many features, but involve serious compromises in sound quality. And most audio equipment that offers true audiophile sound quality is limited to stereo and offers very few features. Emotiva’s plans called for a platform capable of delivering both.
To make all of this possible, it was necessary to develop an entirely new hardware platform, which combines powerful new processor technology with careful analog circuit design to deliver the best possible audio performance. Running on this hardware platform, our proprietary operating system powers the menu system and all the advanced control logic. This new platform was first introduced to the public in the highly popular XMC-1. The RMC-1L takes this technological innovation to the next level, with the latest 4K and Dolby Vision UHD HDR video switching capabilities, enhanced audio decoding and processing, the latest digital-to-analog conversion components, more channels, and even more slots for future expansion and upgrades. The RMC-1L represents the ultimate expression of this new design philosophy.

The RMC-1L offers the level of audio performance and features you expect from high-end audiophile components, combined with perfect video switching of the latest 4K UHD HDR and Dolby Vision video content, as well as numerous channels to support the latest object-oriented home theater surround sound formats (including Dolby Atmos up to 9.1.6 and DTS:X up to 7.1.4). The RMC-1 offers a wide range of audio options, from native DSD audio playback to pure analog playback in Reference Stereo audiophile mode, to full decoding of the latest 3D audio formats. Listening modes for the discerning listener
When used as a home theater processor, the RMC-1L starts by decoding the audio from your movie soundtracks and surround sound discs with the best possible sound quality. Sophisticated bass management directs low frequency signals to your subwoofer and the advanced Dirac Live automatic room correction system carefully optimizes the sound of each speaker to your listening room. This finely tuned digital audio signal is then converted to high quality analog audio by precision DACs and sent to your power amplifiers - via an analog volume control and high quality audiophile circuitry.
If you are listening to high resolution audio files or other high quality music sources that do not require advanced processing, the RMC-1L offers several purist audiophile modes. High quality digital sources, both PCM and DSD, can be directly converted to analog by the high precision audio converters, bypassing all the most advanced processing. And if you have analog sources that don’t require any processing, they can be routed directly to the analog signal path, bypassing any digital processing.
