SSC Matchpoint 100: decoupling foot with felt top

A hi-fi component placed on a cabinet picks up whatever travels through it: vibrations from the floor, from the speakers, and from its own transformer. The Matchpoint 100 sits between the component and its support to reduce these transfers. It is a decoupling foot with a felt top, designed to slide under a player, amplifier or turntable that rests flat, with no spike or screw to adapt.

A wider foot than the Netpoint series

SSC, a German manufacturer of decoupling accessories, uses the same technology across several ranges. The Netpoint series is the most compact. The Matchpoint series uses its internal suspension element in a wider housing, allowing it to dissipate mechanical energy more effectively and support heavier components. The Matchpoint 100 measures 65 mm in diameter and 15 mm in height, and each foot supports a load of 25 kg.

The body is made of anodised aluminium, a surface treatment that hardens the metal and protects it against corrosion and scratches. The top is covered in felt. This felt provides gentle contact with the component’s chassis without marking it, and is what distinguishes the 100 version from its two siblings.

Three tops for three ways of supporting a component

The Matchpoint series shares the same central parts as the Netpoint series, numbered 100, 200 and 300. The 100 version directly supports the underside of a component or its original feet if they are flat. The 300 version has an aluminium disc with a recessed cup that accommodates a spike, for speakers or cabinets fitted with them. Choosing the right top therefore depends on what is underneath the component, not on its type.

For an amplifier, a CD player, a converter or a network player with a smooth base or simple feet, the felt version is the most straightforward to install: lift the component, position the feet, then set it back down. No tools are required.

Where decoupling is most noticeable

Not all components respond to vibrations in the same way. A turntable is the most sensitive, since its cartridge reads a groove through mechanical contact and turns anything that moves the record or tonearm into a signal. A CD player or a transport contains a playback mechanism that is disrupted by vibrations. Amplifiers, meanwhile, house transformers that vibrate slightly and transmit this energy to the cabinet, which in turn sends it back to the other components placed alongside.

Placement matters as much as the foot itself. Three feet provide a stable base on a surface that is not perfectly flat, while four distribute the load more evenly under a heavy or particularly wide component. On an amplifier with the transformer housed on one side, position a foot closer to that area so that the weight does not rest on a single point. The Matchpoint 100 has no height adjustment: if a cabinet is uneven, it is the cabinet that needs shimming.

Frequently asked questions

How many isolation pads are needed under a device?

Three are enough under a lightweight unit placed on a slightly uneven piece of furniture, because three points of contact cannot rock. Four are better suited under a wide or heavy chassis. Make sure the load on each foot stays below 25 kg, bearing in mind that a unit’s weight is rarely distributed evenly.

Should the device's original feet be removed?

Not necessarily. If the feet are flat and wide enough to rest on the felt, the isolation pads can be placed underneath them. If you prefer the pad to touch the chassis directly, position it next to the original feet, provided these no longer touch the furniture; otherwise, the isolation is bypassed.

What's the difference compared to the Netpoint 100?

Both use the same suspension element and the same felt top. The Matchpoint 100 is wider and taller (65 × 15 mm versus 50 × 10 mm), allowing it to dissipate more energy and support heavier equipment.

Can it be used under speakers?

Yes, under flat-bottomed speakers placed on furniture or a stand, up to a maximum of 25 kg per pad. If the speakers are fitted with spikes, the Matchpoint 300 version and its cup are suitable.

Could the felt leave marks on delicate furniture?

The felt is placed on top of the support, facing the equipment. The aluminium base rests on the furniture. On a glass surface, delicate varnished wood or a lacquered finish, handle the supports without sliding them to avoid scratching the surface.

Does decoupling affect the sound of all devices in the same way?

No. The effect depends on the device’s sensitivity to vibrations and the type of furniture. A turntable or CD player placed on lightweight furniture near the speakers benefits more than a converter with no moving parts placed on a heavy stand.
