Hisense PX2-PRO 4K Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector

The Hisense PX2-PRO is a 4K ultra short throw laser projector that replaces the PX1-Pro. It occupies a place in the high-end segment of home theater projectors. Thanks to its ultra short throw ratio of 0.25:1, it can project an image from 90 to 130 inches diagonally while being placed just a few inches from the wall or projection screen.

Display Technology

The PX2-PRO uses a DLP matrix combined with a TriChroma laser lamp composed of 3 laser sources (red, green, and blue). This technology covers 107% of the BT.2020 color space, far beyond the traditional REC.709 space of conventional TVs and projectors. The result is richer, more nuanced, and extremely realistic colors.

The brightness reaches 2400 lumens, a slight increase from the 2200 lumens of the PX1-Pro. This allows for daytime projection, although using an anti-reflective ALR screen is recommended for optimal results. The native contrast of 1500:1 is average for a DLP projector.

Image Quality

Video processing is handled by Hisense’s Quad Core processor. It manages the upscaling of Full HD sources to 4K, MEMC motion compensation for smoother images during sports broadcasts, and supports major HDR formats: HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision.

Numerous settings are available to optimize image quality based on the type of content being viewed: predefined image modes, color temperature controls, gamma, noise reduction, etc. A Filmmaker mode disables all processing to best respect the director’s vision.

Integrated Audio

A 2 x 15W soundbar compatible with Dolby Atmos is integrated into the front of the projector. It delivers powerful sound with convincing 3D surround effects, although a dedicated home theater system will offer a more immersive experience. Various audio modes are available (Standard, Cinema, Music, Game…) to suit the program.

Connectivity

The connectivity includes 3 HDMI 2.1 inputs (one of which is eARC compatible), 2 multimedia USB ports, an optical digital audio output, a headphone jack, and an Ethernet port. Wireless connectivity is provided by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Note the absence of a TNT tuner, requiring an external TV decoder or streaming applications.

Smart TV Functions

The PX2-PRO features Hisense’s Vidaa U 6.0 system, which provides access to major streaming applications (Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube…). The interface is smooth, customizable, and navigation is very responsive. A media player allows you to play files stored on a USB drive or hard drive.

Installation and Setup

Installation is facilitated by motorized focus, digital zoom, and automatic keystone correction. Adjustable feet allow for fine-tuning the position. Geometric calibration uses the smartphone’s camera to match the image to the screen.

The PX2-PRO comes with a well-designed remote control that provides direct access to main functions and advanced settings. It communicates via Bluetooth, allowing control even if the projector is placed behind the user.

Design and Consumption

The design follows the aesthetic codes of Hisense’s TV lasers with a metallic gray finish. The dimensions of 52 x 32 x 16 cm and a weight of 9.2 kg make it a substantial device that will ideally find its place on a TV stand. The build quality is excellent with robust materials and precise adjustments.

The PX2-PRO operates quietly, with a very discreet fan, which is appreciable for a 4K laser projector. The maximum power consumption is 300W, which is average for its category. The laser source’s lifespan is estimated at 25,000 hours.
