The Klipsch SPL-120 is an active subwoofer designed to reproduce low frequencies with precision and power. Part of Klipsch’s SPL series, it’s aimed at music and cinema enthusiasts seeking enhanced sound immersion.
The heart of the SPL-120 lies in its Class D digital amplifier, capable of delivering an impressive 300W RMS power output, with peaks reaching 600 watts. This power reserve allows the subwoofer to reproduce the deepest and most intense bass effortlessly, even in large spaces. With a frequency response ranging from 24 Hz to 125 Hz, the SPL-120 plunges into sonic depths to reproduce every rumble, explosion, or double bass note with striking authority.
At the heart of the SPL-120 is a 12-inch driver featuring Klipsch’s Cerametallic technology. This injection-molded graphite cone, coated with a thin layer of copper, offers a perfect balance between rigidity and lightness. The result is exceptional responsiveness and minimal distortion, even at high listening levels. Bass is thus reproduced with surgical precision, maintaining its definition and punch in all situations.
The SPL-120 features a bass-reflex design with a front-firing laminar port. This configuration optimizes driver efficiency while minimizing air turbulence noise, even at high volumes. The robust MDF cabinet and vibration-absorbing rubber feet help eliminate unwanted resonances, ensuring pure, uncolored sound reproduction.
To adapt to all systems and rooms, the SPL-120 offers great adjustment flexibility. The variable low-pass filter from 24 Hz to 125 Hz allows precise adjustment of the crossover point with the main speakers. A phase selector (0° or 180°) facilitates optimal acoustic integration in the listening room. Stereo line and LFE inputs ensure universal compatibility with stereo amplifiers and home theater systems.
Whether experiencing the impact of an explosion in an action film, the depth of a bass line in a jazz piece, or the power of a symphony orchestra, the SPL-120 transports the listener to the heart of the action. Its ability to reproduce high sound levels (118 dB at 1 meter) without distortion guarantees a visceral experience, while its precision preserves all the nuances and textures of low frequencies.
The SPL-120 incorporates practical features for everyday use. Auto power-on allows the subwoofer to instantly wake from standby as soon as an audio signal is detected, avoiding any delay in bass reproduction. In standby mode, power consumption is reduced to just 0.5 watts, contributing to the system’s energy efficiency. For those who prefer flexible placement without wiring constraints, the SPL-120 is compatible with Klipsch’s optional WA-2 wireless transmission kit.
The SPL-120 is designed for medium to large rooms, up to approximately 540 square feet. However, its efficiency allows it to adapt to smaller spaces by simply adjusting the output level.
Absolutely! Using two subwoofers can improve bass distribution in the room and provide an even more immersive experience. The phase and crossover frequency settings allow for optimized integration.
Yes, its versatility is one of its strengths. The SPL-120’s precision and speed make it an excellent choice for music, while its power and low-frequency extension make it perfect for cinema effects.
The SPL-120 stands out for its excellent value for money, offering performance comparable to more expensive models. Its Cerametallic cone and powerful amplifier give it an advantage in terms of precision and dynamics compared to many competitors in its price category.
