This Klipsch speaker pack includes two R-605FA floorstanders with built-in Dolby Atmos speakers, one R-30C center speaker, and two R-50M bookshelf speakers. The 5.0.2 configuration lets you enjoy immersive sound without ceiling installation thanks to the R-605FA’s upward-firing drivers. The speakers use Tractrix horn technology, TCP diaphragms, and aluminum LTS tweeters to deliver accurate sound reproduction across the entire audio spectrum.
The new-generation Tractrix horns equip all the speakers in this pack, featuring a square 90° × 90° geometry. This design offers directional control over a wider bandwidth compared with previous versions. The horn’s larger external dimensions provide better directivity management, particularly in the high frequencies. Developed by Klipsch since the 1990s, this technology follows a specific mathematical curve that minimizes turbulence at the horn’s mouth.
The 25.4 mm LTS (Linear Travel Suspension) tweeter uses an aluminum diaphragm paired with a Kapton suspension. This polymer, remarkably light and rigid, allows linear dome excursion across its full stroke. The combination of these materials achieves high sensitivities—96 dB for the floorstanders and center, 92 dB for the bookshelves—while maintaining minimal distortion even at high volumes.
The copper-woven, TCP (Thermoformed Crystalline Polymer) cones are an innovation drawn directly from the Reference Premiere series. The cones’ steeper angle, combined with additional reinforcing ribs, improves diaphragm rigidity. This design reduces cone breakup modes in the upper midrange, ensuring a smooth transition to the tweeter.
Each R-605FA tower integrates two separate acoustic systems within a single 1017 mm-high cabinet. The main system uses two vertically mounted 165 mm woofers, while a separate upward-firing Dolby Atmos module reflects sound off the ceiling to create height effects. This setup eliminates the need for in-ceiling speakers while preserving the vertical spatialization of modern soundtracks.
The Atmos module has its own 133 mm woofer and dedicated LTS tweeter, operating as a full-fledged speaker with a 180 Hz to 21 kHz response. Discreet rear connections allow you to power the main and height channels separately, offering full flexibility depending on your amplifier. The front-firing bass-reflex ports also follow the Tractrix geometry, optimizing airflow to minimize chuffing even at the lowest frequencies.
The 19 mm MDF construction incorporates internal bracing to limit cabinet vibrations. The included molded feet ensure perfect stability on any floor type, while the removable magnetic grilles let you reveal or conceal the signature copper cones to suit your aesthetic preferences.
The R-30C’s configuration stands out with four 90 mm woofers arranged symmetrically around the central tweeter. This array-based architecture improves horizontal dispersion while maintaining strict vertical directivity control. The result is an expanded listening area where dialogue remains perfectly intelligible, even for viewers seated off-axis.
At just 126 mm tall, this center fits easily under a TV without blocking the screen. Front-firing ports allow placement against a wall or inside a TV cabinet without compromising bass response. The 1650 Hz crossover point, slightly higher than on the other models in the pack, optimizes tonal coherence for sound pans traversing the front soundstage.
The crossover uses a progressive network (tapered array) topology specifically designed for center speakers. This approach enhances midrange definition, a crucial band for vocal reproduction. Gold-plated binding posts accept large-gauge cables, allowing bi-amping if your setup supports it.
The R-50M rounds out the system with a more traditional yet highly effective approach. The single 130 mm woofer allows flexible placement on stands, shelves, or wall mounts without the alignment constraints of multi-woofer designs. The rear port requires at least 10 cm of clearance from the wall to perform properly, but this configuration provides bass extension down to 58 Hz—remarkable for speakers of this size.
At 92 dB, sensitivity is high for bookshelves, enabling pairing with modestly powered amplifiers, including certain tube models. The 1560 Hz crossover ensures perfect tonal coherence with the other speakers in the pack. The 354 mm-high cabinet incorporates the same internal bracing as the larger models, ensuring minimal coloration even at high volume.
These speakers perform equally well as surrounds or as a standalone stereo system. Their versatility lets you start with a 2.0 or 2.1 setup and gradually evolve toward a full home theater configuration.
The nominal 8-ohm impedance and high sensitivity (92–96 dB) make these speakers compatible with nearly all amplifiers on the market. A model delivering 50 watts per channel is sufficient for comfortable levels in a 30 m² room. To fully exploit the system’s dynamic capabilities, especially in home theater, a 75–100 watt amplifier is preferable.
Thanks to their front-firing ports, the R-605FA floorstanders can be placed 15–20 cm from the rear wall. The R-50M bookshelf speakers need more space (minimum 10 cm, ideally 20–30 cm) due to their rear port. The R-30C center, with front ports, can be placed close to a wall or inside a cabinet.
The copper finish on the TCP cones is not just decorative. The woven copper increases diaphragm rigidity while keeping it lightweight. This technique improves the cone’s pistonic behavior, reducing distortion and coloration. Magnetic grilles let you hide or showcase this distinctive element to taste.
This 5.0.2 pack is an excellent foundation but requires the addition of a subwoofer for the LFE (Low Frequency Effects) in modern soundtracks. The floorstanders reach down to 38 Hz, sufficient for music but not for reproducing the infrabass in action films. A subwoofer from the Reference range is the ideal complement.
The R-50M delivers outstanding stereo performance in rooms up to 25 m². Their response down to 58 Hz provides enough low-end for most music genres. Adding a subwoofer is recommended for electronic music or organ, where sub-50 Hz frequencies add an extra dimension.
No, the R-605FA works perfectly as a traditional floorstander if you connect only the main binding posts. Activating the Atmos module is optional and depends on your amplifier. This flexibility lets you start with a classic 5.0 system and upgrade to Dolby Atmos later.
These speakers’ high sensitivity and controlled directivity make them effective in spaces from 20 to 50 m². In smaller rooms, their ability to perform well at low volumes while maintaining clarity is a real asset. In larger rooms, their high efficiency allows high sound pressure levels without audible distortion.
